StokeonTrent, United Kingdom NHS Midlands and Lancashire Commissioning Support Unit Full time

The Improvement Unit, part of NHS Midlands and Lancashire Commissioning Support Unit, are experts supporting NHS partners with their improvement, transformation and innovation plans, projects and strategies. We work with our clients to improve clinical outcomes, deliver better patient experiences and drive down the cost of care.

The Improvement Unit continues to grow and we are looking for a dynamic, people centered Head of Service to lead the next stage of the Unit’s development. The successful applicant will need to have experience of leading large teams, working on complex health and care improvement programmes and of managing a range of client relationships.

We are original advocates of agile and mobile working in the CSU, so the team doesn’t have a specified base or office. Team members each have an appropriate ‘home’ CSU site which they work from, but are encouraged to work flexibly, often across a range of CSU and client sites or working from home as appropriate, and to maintain a healthy work/life balance.

The Head of the Improvement Unit will provide leadership to a team of 30+ improvement, programme and project management specialists and will be responsible for the development and growth of individuals and of the Improvement Unit’s business pipeline.

You will need excellent communication and negotiations skills, and experience of leading multiple complex improvement and change programmes across a range of clients, as well as a comprehensive understanding of the NHS operating environment.

We are looking for someone who has led consultancy based teams, has business development experience and the ability to build relationships across multiple stakeholders.

The NHS is the biggest employer in Europe. It’s a world-renowned institution and an exciting place to work, full of challenges and opportunities.

NHS Midlands and Lancashire Commissioning Support Unit (MLCSU)is one of the biggest and best-performing commissioning support units in the country, with among the highest levels of staff and customer satisfaction. We work together as a team of over 1,600 expert staff based across the Midlands and North West to make a difference - for our customers, patients and communities.

Offering a full range of professional services to clinical commissioning groups (CCGs), hospital trusts, local authorities, integrated care systems (ICSs) and other public bodies\ across the country, our NHS values underpin everything we do.

In return, we provide a supportive environment in which to learn and develop, with the opportunity to further your skills and career within an exciting and evolving environment.

Joining our inclusive and innovative team comes with a range of benefits including flexible & agile working arrangements, pension scheme and generous annual leave allowance.

With our training schemes and support networks, you will be empowered to play a leading role in the future of healthcare, whatever your specialism or interest. And as a member of NHS staff you will receive plenty of discounts too.

We have a track record of achieving excellent outcomes for our clients and supporting effective cross-organisational and cross-sector collaboration. We achieve this by working in partnership with our clients to fully understand their needs and then developing tailored solutions - underpinned by our operational excellence ethos and drawing on our breadth of experience in project management principles including ‘Lean’ service re-engineering and agile continuing improvement, all using Prince 2 methodology.

Success in delivering change and improvement requires an incisive end to end focus from initial inception to project completion. Our customers want to be continually assured that their requirements and expectations are being met through effective service delivery.

**The Team needs a leader who can**:

- Oversee and develop the consultancy team. This involves leading the team, both in terms of day-to-day operations and developing strategy, ensuring the team always follows best practice. You will have a proven track record of project management, delivering health and care improvement programmes and projects, leading and motivating large teams and business development and be able to develop innovative solutions to problems.
- Lead the team members. You will ensure that all are supported in their development and continual learning, and you will drive a culture of achievement. You will manage the resource both in terms of recruitment and achieve some flexibility to align to demands.
- Lead and / or manage projects. This means taking responsibility for customer liaison at a senior level, project planning and managing teams.
