Answer the telephone responding to questions or requests as appropriate. Make NHS outpatient referrals as requested by nursing staff. Welcome visitors onto the Ward and inform Sister/Nurse in Charge or deputy of any query they may have. Order transport for patients as requested by nursing staff.

Request and collect (or deliver when required) items from various departments. Contact medical staff on behalf of nursing staff when requested. Ensure patient details are correct on paperwork and on the electronic systems. Ensure records are sent from the ward correctly compiled and completed following patient discharge.

Ensure the patients notes/documentation is stored in a safe manner, with records filed accurately within Trust guidelines. Request the services of allied healthcare professionals as requested by nursing staff (eg Doctors, Porters etc). Report identified maintenance defects to engineers. Photocopy any necessary paperwork.

To undertake any other clerical duties as designated by the Ward Manager/Nurse-in-Charge.
