- **EQUANS are recruiting for an Apprentice SHEQ Advisor to be based in Newcastle. This is a fixed term full-time role working 37.5 hours per week. On offer is a competitive salary and benefits package.**
**General Overview**
**Key Accountabilities**
- Provide administrative support to SHEQ team.
- Monitor AIMS for compliance and ensure close out of any outstanding actions, a site visit can form part of this corrective close out to ensure the evidence is factual with close outs, allowing for AIMS compliance and site exposure.
- Working with S/C to share best practices and initiatives on a site to site basis.
- Shadowing strong operational staff to get an understanding of construction and different risks that align with both NB and Refurb Projects.
- Assist with ensuring the business is operating in a way that we can demonstrate industry excellence by virtue of ongoing attendance at the working well together groups (CPD Events), developing both the individual and feeding back into region/team on any areas of note we can improve/adapt.
- Be the boots on the ground for promoting and sharing any business initiatives, assisting with delivery and overseeing close out.
- Conduct simplified, formatted risk based SHEQ audits against current/trends and issues.
- Regularly monitor HSE movements and understand the theme of the visits to ensure we are properly prepared as region.
- Liaise with Quality Manager to offer regular feedback around internal or external audit news.
- Follow up operational and SHEQ feedback on current documents and processes, again allowing for the natural exposure and heightened exposure this will allow for.
- Support SHEQ Manager/Advisor during SHEQ visits and audits.
- Develop bespoke sessions that can be handed out to sites to form part of the pre-shift briefing packs.
- Understand environmental compliance and support EA with tasks including compliance monitoring.
- Site Visits to aid with setting up site based documentation, pre-audits and sign off to OPS manager and SHEQ manager to allow for a safe start.
- Assist with Pre-audits to ensure we can maintain high compliance rates for regional audits.
- Cross region visits to NW to identify and share any best practice we can establish.
- Regular shadowing/support with pre commence managers to get an understanding on how we should be setting up sites.
- Take ownership and monitor actions/close outs of the pre-commence SHEQ Trackers.
- Support all support functions to understand how TW, Enviro and M&E/Gas compliance is implemented within the region.
- Provide guidance and advice to sub-contractors at pre-construction stage to ensure compliance with statutory requirements and company standards.
- Work with the Planning Department and S/C to identify key milestones / high risk activities to identify risk during construction stage
- Work with the Bid Team during tender stage to ensure all relevant information is available and provided as requested
- Ensure SHEQ is considered at all pre-commencement stages and relevant control measures identified to members of the supply chain
- On a day-to-day basis ensure sub-contractors comply with statutory requirements and company standards as stipulated during their due diligence/tender packs
- Carry out pre-planned site audits against the sub-contractor workforce to ensure compliance, providing feedback via the company’s reporting system
- Ensure the sub-contractors are correctly vetted and work with the sub-contractor coordinating manager to support this
- Highlighting areas where poor practice and/or significant risk is identified due to S/C not adhering to their contractual obligations.
- Assisting in the reviewal of risk assessments relating to SHEQ on a site-to-site basis as provided by S/C
- Support site team and S/C with ensuring operatives are face fitted properly. Training site teams on how to conduct the test on the workforce.
- Proactively working with S/C teams during the project lifecycle to ensure that SHEQ is considered at all stages and that relevant control measures are identified
- Assisting the business with the implementation of the standards and systems
- Undertaking site visits where key milestones have been identified during programme. This will require working with the relevant construction teams to ensure successful delivery of high risk activities in line with industry best practice
- Audit subcontractor paperwork and safe systems of work during construction phase
- Provide short term cover where necessary across the region
- Attendance at regional SHEQ meetings across north east and north west (if required)
- Attendance at regional management meetings as SHEQ representative
- Any other reasonable management request
- Liaise with client teams’ safety advisors to learn best practice and support SHEQ department
- Support SHEQ team during s/c safety focused coordination meetings
