Lead Midwife for Maternal Medicine

The post holder will work as a specialist midwife to facilitate high quality, effective, holistic and supportive pregnancy care for women with pre-existing complex medical conditions or co-morbidities. This includes assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care and the setting of standards.
You will be expected to deliver women centred advice, support and care for women and their families with pre-existing medical comorbidities throughout the perinatal period.
The post holder will be expected to work closely with the multi-disciplinary teams providing care for this group of women and provide midwifery care in line with evidenced based guidelines. You will be able to work independently, safely and effectively.
The post holder will act as professional resource for other health care professionals within secondary and primary care. You will be expected to assist in the design and delivery of educational programmes and study days appropriate to the area of speciality to ensure care is provided within the Trust that is effective and evidenced based to support safe practice.
Fulfil the role of a midwife as defined by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Midwifery Rules and Code of Practice and reflect the Trust's guidelines, policies and standards of practice.
To provide clinical and professional leadership and to act as a credible and professional role model and encourage and empower staff to develop personally and professionally to achieve their maximum potential.
Act as an autonomous practitioner and appropriately provide highly specialised advice and support to women with pre-existing complex medical conditions or co-morbidities, their families and other health care professionals.
To support antenatal clinics, midwife led clinics and manage own case-load and departmental caseload effectively.
Be available as an expert in caring for women with pre-existing complex medical conditions or co-morbidities for midwives and doctors to ensure care provided within the Trust is effective and evidenced based to support safe practice.
To maintain effective communication and working relationships within the team and between the team and other health care professionals.
To actively foster strong links with other clinical areas and support agencies.
To actively participate in local and national audits.
Monitor and evaluate clinical standards within the department, ensuring that clinical practices are evidence-based and bench marked against best practice locally, regionally and nationally.

To provide effective leadership, direction and support to the midwives and other team members by communication and role model example.
To coordinate, monitor and record clinical activity within the team as required.
To effectively roster staff to ensure an effective service is provided and facilitate the provision of other service providers within the department.
To investigate complaints, incidents and accidents within the team and assist in their resolution and dissemination of learning outcomes.
Liaise with the Clinical Governance Team and Midwifery Matron on aspects of unsafe practice that do not meet agreed professional standards and take appropriate action as necessary.
To ensure clinical incident reporting takes place and facilitate changes to reduce risk.
Provide professional support to other members of the MDT.
Attend or send representation to relevant meetings as requested.
To assist the continual review, development, and improvement of maternity services.
To ensure and participate in the orientation and teaching of all students and new members of staff who join the team and as required.
To ensure and facilitate in meeting needs of the student, by providing a suitable learning environment and by engaging in clinical teaching where appropriate.
Identify and implement any training needs and work with the education team on implementing training.
Develop good working relationships and communication with other ward / departments /
