Head of Software Development

The Head of Software Development leads and supervises a small in-house software project and team. The focus is now on finding a leader who can maximize the team's potential, which requires strong people management and leadership qualities.

The ideal candidate needs strong project management and communication skills, the potential to deputize for the CTO, technical leadership, attention to detail, and expertise in C#, .Net, source control, and CI/CD pipelines. Experience in AI is beneficial but not mandatory.

**Responsibilities:**
*Technical Leadership and Agile Practices*
- Develop the underlying architecture for all software products and development.
- Manage and oversee multiple software projects, ensuring development meets key milestones on time and aligns with organizational goals.
- Develop software solutions by studying information needs, conferring with users, studying systems flow, data usage, and work processes, and investigating problem areas.
- Design and conduct tests and implement systems for software automation, continuous integration, and deployment.
- Demonstrate programming ability using C# and .Net and willingness to learn additional languages and frameworks as needed.
- Stay updated by researching new technologies and participating in educational opportunities.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with legal, security, and regulatory requirements.

*Team Development*
- Line manage a team of 6 by appraising, setting personal development plans and objectives, and conducting regular one-on-ones.
- Foster an environment of continuous personal and professional learning.
- Serve as a technical mentor and adviser to the team and across the organization.
- Lead the team in pushing the boundaries of innovation and technology.

*Other Duties*
- Deputize for the CTO when required.
- Collaborate closely with the CTO and the Head of IT to manage day-to-day operations and contribute to the long-term strategy for the Technology team.
- Guide cross-functional teams through complex projects and organizational changes.
- Prepare documentation and reports to communicate findings to stakeholders in verbal or written/presentation formats.

The salary is £80k plus an extensive benefits package. WFH is fine as needed, although you are expected to spend at least a couple of days a week in the Cambridge office.

This role would appeal to Team Leaders. Software Managers must be good at managing projects. They currently have a legacy solution they are re-vamping in C#. Coding "knowledge" is important, but this role is more about leadership, delivering, and managing the team and project
