Job Description:

Our client are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design/Estimator to join their team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for accurately estimating costs for design and build (D&B) tenders, and effectively managing the design process from initial stages through to completion. This role requires working from their Tamworth office with occasional site visits.

Key Responsibilities:

* Collaborate with the estimating team in the Tamworth office; national site visits as required.

* Estimate costs for D&B tenders from RIBA stages 4 to 6 by analyzing project plans, specifications, and drawings.

* Design and estimate stage 3/4 information, including provisional pipework sizes, heat emitter calculations, plant working calculations, take-offs, and report generation.

* Conduct site visits to assess ongoing work, gather necessary information, and produce variation costs.

* Provide comprehensive handovers to the post-contract team.

* Communicate effectively with clients and present mechanical estimates during discussions with main contractors.

* Engage with suppliers and plant providers (e.g., AHUs, Chillers, MVHRs, pipework suppliers, subcontractors) during the tender stage to ensure proper equipment selection and account for potential site conditions or material price fluctuations.

* Upon project award, coordinate with accounts to set up the new project in the accounting system.

* Create and organize new job folders for the post-contract team, ensuring all necessary information is available for efficient commercial and operational delivery.

* Train junior team members, including a junior quantity surveyor, in estimating practices.

Additional Responsibilities:

* Support pre-bid activities by assisting with pre-bid meetings, client clarifications, and gathering project information.

* Conduct value engineering to analyze project designs and suggest cost-saving alternatives without compromising quality.

* Contribute to internal reports and analyses to enhance estimating accuracy and profitability.

Qualifications:

* Proven experience as a Mechanical Estimator in the construction or civil engineering industry.

* Strong understanding of mechanical systems and relevant building codes.

* Excellent analytical and numerical skills.

* Proficiency in estimation software and MS Office Suite.

* Strong communication and negotiation skills.

* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

* Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
