Their rapid expansion has led to the growth of the engineering team and the need for a new Principal Automotive Mechanical Engineer.
The Opportunity
Due to continued growth of our clients business we are looking for an experienced automtove mechanical engineer to join their major projects division team. You will be working on exciting and cutting edge projects, predominantly within the automotive sector, but this will not be a run of the mill vehicle engineering role To be successful, you will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be highly organised and be able to build effective relationships with clients, colleagues and other stakeholders.
The Principal Automotive Mechanical Engineer, will be responsible for providing System Engineering capabilities and leadership in the area of bespoke vehicles.
The role will place significant demands on your engineering knowledge and experience and will require liaison and co-operation with the vehicle systems engineering teams both within the company and their clients.
The individual should have a proven history in working in design and development system teams throughout the engineering lifecycle from initial concept through to production and have a full understanding of a vehicles complete sturcure and systems.
Responsibilities:
* Writing component specifications
* Configuration Management of vehicle system and sub-systems data
* Dealing with subcontractors during subsystem design and development
* Prepare material for internal and external design reviews
* Carry out viability assessments of competing technologies and systems
* Prepare cost, program and risk estimates for proposed engineering support solutions
* Provide concise briefings to the Leadership team
* Functional analysis activities
* Implementation of design solutions
* Support business wide Systems Engineering integration and test activities
* Support and own aspects of innovation development
* Management of manufacturing builds
* Ownership of issues taking these through to resolution
Requirements:
* Full understanding of a complete vehicle strucures and systems
* Degree qualified in a relevant engineering discipline.
* Experience leading activities on engineering development programmes (for bespoke vehicle systems is seen as an advantage).
* Proven sub-contractor management experience.
* Proven experience in working with sub-contractors through the integration, test and acceptance phases.
* Proven experience of full systems engineering lifecycle.
* Willing to travel within the UK and possibly overseas.
* Able to create and maintain technical documentation
* Ability to lead and support the creation of new technical standards and guidelines
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Excellent influencing and negotiation skills.
* Excellent customer relationship skills.
