Job Summary:

The Compliance Officer will ensure that Hammersmith and Fulham Councilsub adheres to all relevant laws, regulations, and internal policies. The role involves overseeing compliance programs, conducting risk assessments, and implementing policies and procedures to prevent illegal, unethical, or improper conduct. The Compliance Officer will work closely with various departments to promote a culture of compliance and ethical behavior.

Key Responsibilities:

Regulatory Compliance:

Ensure the council complies with local, regional, and national regulations.
Keep up to date with regulatory changes and advise the council on necessary actions.
Develop and implement compliance policies and procedures.

Risk Management:

Conduct risk assessments and identify areas of potential compliance vulnerability.
Develop and oversee corrective action plans for the resolution of problematic issues.
Provide guidance on risk management strategies.

Training and Education:

Design and deliver training programs to council employees on compliance issues and regulatory changes.
Promote awareness and understanding of new and existing compliance requirements.

Monitoring and Reporting:

Monitor compliance activities and programs to ensure effectiveness.
Prepare and present regular compliance reports to senior management and the council board.
Investigate and address compliance concerns and breaches.

Policy Development:

Draft, review, and update policies and procedures to ensure ongoing compliance.
Work with various departments to integrate compliance into day-to-day operations.

Ethics and Integrity:

Promote a culture of ethical behavior and integrity within the council.
Act as a point of contact for ethical concerns and dilemmas faced by employees.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Law, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field. A Master's degree or professional certification (e.g., Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional) is preferred.
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a compliance, legal, or regulatory role, preferably within a public sector or local government environment.
In-depth knowledge of relevant regulations, laws, and standards.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
High level of integrity and professional ethics.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with compliance management software.
