Our client, a leading food manufacturing company, is seeking an experienced Shift Manager to join their dynamic team. This role is ideal for a dedicated professional looking to oversee and optimise production processes while leading a team of skilled production and engineering members.

Schedule

The successful candidate will work an average of 42 hours per week, following a 4-on, 4-off shift pattern. Shifts are 12 hours long, alternating between two day shifts from 7 AM to 7 PM, and two night shifts from 7 PM to 7 AM.

Job Purpose

As a Shift Manager, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the manufacturing plant. You will be responsible for managing people, processes, and machinery, aiming to meet production goals and uphold high standards of quality and safety.

Key Responsibilities

* Leading and developing a team of skilled production and engineering members.

* Conducting appraisals, managing recruitment, training, and development of team members.

* Ensuring compliance with quality, health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards.

* Planning and prioritising work to maximise resource efficiency.

* Overseeing the smooth operation and efficiency of machinery.

* Meeting production targets and managing budgets.

* Championing continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.

* Implementing a ‘fix forever’ mentality to address and resolve issues permanently.

* Leading projects to reduce waste and improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).

* Fostering effective communication within the team and across shifts.

* Building strong relationships with support teams such as Hygiene, Quality, Supply Chain, Health & Safety, and HR.

* Promoting a culture of high customer service standards and continuous improvement.

* Identifying and resolving production, operator, and equipment issues.

* Conducting root cause analysis and implementing effective solutions.

* Ensuring a safe working environment and managing crisis incidents and accident investigations.

* Making informed decisions regarding equipment repairs and production suspension when necessary.

Key Relationships

* Daily interactions with the Manufacturing Manager, Team Managers, Engineering Managers, QA, and Technical teams.

* Regular interactions with Operators, Engineering Team Members, the Supply Chain/Planning Team, HR Department, and Trade Union representatives as needed.

Qualifications and Skills

* Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, or similar continuous improvement methodologies is essential.

* Leadership and people management experience is required.

* A university qualification is desirable.

* Experience in FMCG/Food manufacturing, shift work, unionised environments, and performance management is preferred.

* Familiarity with production planning, logistics, and financial aspects of factory management is beneficial.

* Understanding of quality management systems, food safety regulations, and occupational safety standards is advantageous.
