This is a dual based role working from Lilleshall National Sports Centre, nr Newport, Shropshire (2 days a week) and from home with travel as required
As the UK’s national governing body for gymnastics, we have set out a new vision for gymnastics to deliver an uplifting gymnastics experience for all. Through our 1400 member clubs and partners we are helping to ensure gymnastics is enjoyable, safe and open to everyone. We want more people to enjoy the many benefits of the sport and to do this there is much more we can do to showcase why gymnastics is such a fantastic sport. Inclusion is central to this vision and our purpose of ensuring gymnastics is enjoyable, safe and open to everyone.
As part of our Leap Without Limits strategy, we have set out an underpinning commitment to be relentless in our pursuit of inclusion and accessibility in gymnastics. We are looking for Equity & Inclusion Officer to help us deliver against this commitment.
Involvement in sport and physical activity can change lives, and this role provides the opportunity for you to play a part in making that happen for people across the country by helping to make gymnastics inclusive, welcoming and accessible for all – creating a feeling of belonging for everyone in gymnastics.
As Equity & Inclusion Officer, your role will support the Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Lead in the delivery of British Gymnastics’ EDI strategy, working closely with internal colleagues, the wider gymnastics community and external stakeholders. As part of your wider work, you will have specific responsibility for supporting colleagues and stakeholders to increase and deliver inclusive opportunities to get involved in gymnastics and creating positive experiences for under-represented groups. You will also act as a central source of knowledge on disability gymnastics and wider inclusive recreational gymnastics for both colleagues and the wider gymnastics community.
This role will include occasional weekend and evening work.
The Role
The main responsibilities of the role are:
Support the EDI Lead to deliver a plan for the organisation that increases opportunities to get involved in gymnastics and creates positive experiences for people who are disabled or are from other under-represented groups
Engage with internal stakeholders including the EDI Network Group and the British Gymnastics Foundation (BGF)
Support our relationship with the Disability Gymnastics Panel (DGP). Help the Panel develop annual delivery plans and provide support to their delivery, particularly around competition pathway and development
Provide first line support to other departments to help them deal with disability sport and inclusion
Assist in maintaining relationships with inclusive sport organisations to work together when developing new products, gaining insights and delivering projects.
Monitor and report on existing products and activities; track and highlight any changing trends to help keep products current
Continually seek and collate information, insight, customer and stakeholder feedback and evidence to inform product developments, building own expertise in inclusive recreational gymnastics.

The Person
Applicants will need to demonstrate:
A demonstrable passion for creating opportunities for under-represented groups to get involved in and benefit from sport and physical activity
An understanding of inclusion and equality in relation to disabled people, lower social economic groups, diverse ethnic communities, LGBTQ+ and women and girl
An understanding of the challenges facing under-represented groups in gymnastics
Interpersonal skills for building relationship with colleagues and partners; the ability to engage in constructive dialogue and collaborative working for delivering products on time and within scope
Communication skills for training and sharing knowledge and information with technical and non-technical audiences; providing first line support for questions and queries and ensuring all relevant stakeholders are kept up-do-date with products, services and developments
The ability to gather and collate information from a range of sources to feed into department activities and new product developments.
Administration skills for supporting colleagues and keeping projects, plans and day-to-day activities on trac
Knowledge of disability and inclusive recreational sport (ideally but not essential to be gymnastics, and specifically across clubs, leisure centres and school environments)
