In this role they would complete child and family assessments with children and families. As Heathrow is in our borough there is some work with unaccompanied asylum seeking children who come into care. There are also occasion requests for Section 7/37 court reports. There is no long term work as once an assessment has been completed if ongoing social work intervention is required then this is transferred to the long term terms.
The team are on duty once per week on a rota basis, so this day changes each month. It is an expectation that all social workers come into the office on that day, and on this day it is a requirement that they are available all day and may need to work late if an emergency situation arises when the team is on duty. Social Workers are also expected to attend the initial child protection case conference in person. There may also be some other meetings which they may be required to attend in person.
The caseload does vary, depending an what comes in on duty, but approximately social workers may have between 15-20 families."
