Clinical Psychologist - Eating Disorders North Yorkshire and York Tees Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated B7 Clinical Psychologist to join the North Yorkshire and York Eating Disorder Service for children and young people.The position will be based across Orca House , York and Dragon Parade Clinic, Harrogate. Travel expenses are included.

The post holder will provide eating disorder services and treatment to young people and their families across North Yorkshire and York. The team operate out of Orca House, York and Dragon Parade Clinic, Harrogate, also providing outreach to Northallerton and Scarborough. The post holder will be based in York and Harrogate, however may be asked to travel to other bases due to service need. We can consider hybrid working patterns (from home and clinical bases) in line with our smarter working policy.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an established community eating disorder team supporting young people and families with eating disorders. We invite applications from suitably qualified Clinical Psychologists. The successful candidate will be registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council.

Main duties of the job

The team includes clinical psychologists, family therapists, nurses, dietitians, psychiatrists and social workers. Therefore, the ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team is a requirement.

The post holder will provide evidence based assessment and treatment based interventions as part of the clinical eating disorder pathways, and offer input to individuals, their families and carers in a clinic setting. The candidate will also provide supervision and support trainee Psychologists throughout placement.

Due to the nature of the role it is essential that applicants are able to travel independently across the locality and have access to a suitable vehicle for business purposes. If necessary, adjustments can be considered in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.

You will be expected to have the necessary skills and experience to undertake direct clinical work with children and families, offer clinical supervision and consultation, contribute to service evaluation, as well as manage the demands of service development and change. Candidates should be skilled psychological professionals with excellent interdisciplinary working skills and interested in contributing to the development of an innovative service.

Person Specification Qualification
  • Post-graduate training (doctoral level equivalent) in clinical / counselling / forensic psychology (or its equivalent prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS
  • HCPC registration as a Practitioner Psychologist
  • Trained in clinical supervision (within agreed timescale)
  • Trained in care co-ordination (within agreed timescale)
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Post-graduate qualification showing evidence of supervised practice in an evidence-based psychological therapeutic model
  • Registration with BPS
Experience
  • Working with mental health/learning disability clients (depending on designated service area)
  • Multi-disciplinary team working
  • Experience of CBT, DBT, Psychodynamics, systemic therapy
  • Experience of research and audit
Knowledge
  • Evidence- based practice relevant to the role
  • Risk assessment and risk management
  • Clinical Governance
  • Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health.
  • Audit and research methodology
Skills
  • Communicate complex and highly sensitive information effectively, to a wide range of people
  • Adapt creatively the evidence base for interventions in mental health for clients with communication difficulties / learning disabilities.
  • Provide (within agreed timescale) effective teaching, training and clinical supervision
  • Work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and undertake care co-ordination/lead practitioner responsibilities
  • Undertake complex multiagency working and liaise with multiple systems
  • Utilise psychometric tests competently
  • Identify, provide and promote appropriate interventions / means of support for carers and staff exposed to highly distressing situations and challenging behaviours.
  • Utilise appropriate clinical governance mechanisms within own work.
  • Skills in using multimedia materials in presentations
