An opportunity has arisen for an experienced therapeutic radiographer ready to step up into a band 7 Team Leader role within the pre-treatment team at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust's radiotherapy department. We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, dynamic individual who will fit in quickly with the pre-treatment team. The successful candidate will ideally hold a College of Radiographers Certificate of Competence in Administering Intravenous Injections, otherwise you will be expected to work towards this and we will suport you to do so.

This opening is an exciting time to join our team following the installation of a new Siemens go.Open Pro CT scanner in january 2024. You will also play a pivotal role in supporting the service to develop new systems of work and foster collaborative working with a strong focus on integrated governance. You will have the opportunity to expand your knowledge of the pre-treatment process and work with a team committed to improving and streamlining the patient pathway.

We actively support professional development and encourage radiographer-led research and QI projects. We support leadership development with excellent leadership development programmes delivered by the Trust. We were the first London radiotherapy service to adopt all its clinical and physics workforces as Macmillan professionals.

We also support flexible working arrangements with the pre-treatment team working 9-day fortnights or reduced hours. All applicants would be expected to support the working hours of the service and work across sites with the occasional need to support on-call working or ad hoc weekend work.

Operating mainly from our Charing Cross site, our current equipment portfolio includes five TrueBeam linacs (one at Hammersmith Hospital), Siemens go.Open pro CT scanner and an Xstrahl unit our Elekta Flexitron Brachytherapy unit is based at Hammersmith Hospital in a dedicated brachytherapy suite. Two of our linacs have the ExacTrac system, and we have now implemented SGRT at our Hammersmith site. We have switched the majority of our treatment planning & vSim pathways to the Raystation system. We are in the final stages of expanding our SABR programme and are now treating Lung, oligo mets & liver SABR.

Main duties of the job


  • To provide high quality, effective individualised treatment and care to all patients.
  • To carry out all practical aspects involved in preparing and delivering radiotherapy treatments.
  • To lead & support teams in allocated pre-treatment areas on a rotational basis.
  • To support the coordination, implementation, and continuous development of a quality improvement culture within the Radiotherapy service.
  • To support the coordination, implementation, and continuous development of a culture of safe, high-quality care in the Radiotherapy service, through effective and robust integrated governance processes and procedures, including statutory and regulatory compliance

  • DCR(T) or BSc in Therapeutic Radiography and registered with HCPC
  • Evidence of personal development and attendance at specialist courses and conferences

  • Post-graduate study in related specialist subjects

  • Demonstrable experience working in a senior clinical role supervising radiotherapy teams
  • Experience and good understanding of electronic patient management systems, and treatment and image verification systems including downloading data, entering data and checking data
  • Sound knowledge of variety of complex treatment techniques
  • Experience in radiotherapy imaging techniques and able to analyse images and formulate action plans

Desirable


  • Experience in leading project work
  • Experience in specialist radiotherapy roles
