As a key member of our SHEQ team, you will collaborate closely with various business units to foster a positive environmental impact across our operations, contributing to our commitment to sustainable practices and responsible business growth. To lead, deliver and maintain a positive approach to Environmental Management and Sustainability across the Telecom Division and its business units delivering upon the Telecom SHEQ and Decarbonisation strategies. Lead the effective delivery of associated management strategies / action plans to exceed client expectations and prevent environmental incidents and non-conformance. What will your key responsibilities be?

  • Ensure contracts and operational activities go above and beyond our Environmental Management System and legislative compliance requirements.
  • Liaise with and report on the relevant environmental, sustainability and carbon capture KPIs and our progress against Divisional targets and objectives
  • Lead on, drive awareness and deliver the requirements of the Environment and Carbon strategies within the division.
  • Support on work winning and contract mobilisation where required.
  • Ensure Telecom contracts / projects are represented in awards submissions, external communications and industry events for environmental initiatives.
  • Responsible for the providing third party assurance on the implementation of the Environmental Management System at contract/ project level to meet the requirements of ISO 14001.
  • Support operational teams with environmental guidance and advice and in the production of internal and external reports.
  • Lead on VSI environmental incident investigations, and support and advise on corrective actions (where required).
  • Liaise with Regulators and other stakeholders to drive cross contract improvements.
  • Carry out internal and external audits of contracts, Projects and supply chain.
What competencies are we looking for?
  • At least 7 years’ construction, utilities or telecoms industry experience or relevant environmental experience in a similar sector.
  • Experience of managing diverse teams of environmental specialists on construction projects across a multi disciplined team.
Personal Qualities / Behaviours:
  • Ability to organise workload effectively for the purpose of meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility / versatility combined with initiative, drive and tenacity to deliver objectives.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with personnel at all levels of the organisation, creating engagement and support.
  • Ability to work autonomously and flexibly, responding to business needs.
  • Ability to challenge poor performance and approach difficult conversations in an appropriate and engaging manner.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Degree Level Qualification in an appropriate Environmental, Carbon Management or related discipline (or equivalent).
  • Practitioner or Full Membership with IEMA or working towards, or equivalent professional body grade
  • Up to date CPD (evidence to be provided).
  • Management / Leadership qualification.
  • Project Management Qualification would be advantageous.
  • Experience of maintaining or reaching externally audited management standards including ISO 14001. Along with but not limited to Achilles, Carbon Reduce, etc.
  • Recent proven experience of working in a Senior Environment/ sustainability position
