Senior Natural Environment Officer
**Role Purpose**:
To provide specialized advice on natural environment issues, focusing on ecology, and support the development and maintenance of policy documents related to future development. The role involves collaborating with various stakeholders, monitoring activities, and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.
**Responsibilities**:
- **Effective Planning Service Delivery**:
- Proactively contribute to the effective delivery of the Planning Service.
- Work flexibly and positively to achieve the council's objectives.
- **Customer Service**:
- Deliver excellent customer service for internal and external customers, including Councillors.
- Respond professionally to public requests for support related to the Planning Service.
- **Complaints and Feedback**:
- Support timely responses to customer complaints, feedback, and requests for information.
- Ensure the Planning Service consistently meets corporate service standards.
- **Place Shaping and Development**:
- Implement the Council's place shaping agenda, promoting the 'right schemes' in the 'right place' at the 'right time.'
- Provide technical advice on development proposals and related matters.
- **Natural Environment Advice**:
- Provide high-quality natural environment advice to the development management service and relevant services across the Council.
- Balance nature conservation with growth, sustainability, and energy efficiency.
- **Policy Development and Review**:
- Assist in preparing and reviewing the Local Plan, including policy-making and site-specific advice.
- Provide advice on natural environment matters for Planning Policy/Planning Committees.
- **Biodiversity and Net Gain**:
- Undertake a systematic review of existing policies and local nature recovery strategies.
- Assist in the implementation of biodiversity net gain, including public consultation.
- **Collaboration and Training**:
- Collaborate with stakeholders, provide consultation responses, and support training programs.
- Assist in the training and support of Career Grade Officers, Graduates, and Apprentices.
- **Process Improvement and Systems Review**:
- Support the Assistant Director and Head of Planning Policy in process improvement and systems review.
- **Data Protection and Compliance**:
- Follow all planning and other legislation, including Data Protection, GDPR, Freedom of Information (FOI), and Health & Safety.
- **Other Duties**:
- Undertake any other duties commensurate with the general level of responsibility.

**Relevant Experience**:
- Experience in a senior role in the natural environment field (E)
- Experience presenting to diverse audiences (E)
- Project management and consultant commissioning experience (D)
- Experience in preparing evidence for Local Plan Examination or Public Inquiry (D)
**Education, Training, and Qualifications**:
- Relevant undergraduate degree (E)
- Relevant Post-Graduate qualification (D)
- Member of the CIEEM or demonstratively working towards APC (E)
**Additional Requirements**:
- Enhanced DBS check.
