At Vital EV, our scope as Kempower’s UK sales & service partner is to supply, install, commission, and maintain high powered DC charging systems nationally. Our work is delivered by a team of well trained, stocked and motivated electrical and project engineers, supported by a 24/7/365 operations team.

We are a forward-thinking business with approximately 60 employees across the UK with ambitions to continue growing, making it an excellent time to join the business. This role is office based, full time at 40 hours per week, standard working hours are Monday to Friday 8:00am to 16:30pm (30-minute lunch).

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Interim HR Manager to join our team during a maternity leave period. This role is crucial in managing the full employee lifecycle, providing comprehensive HR support across all functions of the organisation whilst ensuring smooth operations and compliance with HR policies and procedures. The role will have a key focus on in house recruitment strategies, inclusive of advertising, sourcing, hiring and building talent pools.

This is a full-time, fixed-term contract, covering a maternity period of approximately 12 months. The role is office-based from our Saltney office, 5 days per week.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

The HR Manager will be responsible for the full employee lifecycle of the organisation, from recruitment and retention through to managing all employee relations matters.

Responsibilities will include but not be limited to;

Employee Relations:

  • Oversee all aspects of employee relations including absence management, disciplinary processes, grievances, performance management, capability assessments, and dismissals.
  • Support, coach and mentor Line Managers to confidently handle matters and come to a swift resolution on all people matters.

Recruitment and Talent Acquisition:

  • Drive the in-house recruitment process including job advertising, candidate sourcing, interviewing, selection, offer management, onboarding, and maintaining a talent pool.
  • Conduct salary benchmarking exercises to ensure competitive compensation packages.
  • Work in line with the Marketing team to ensure recruitment strategies are working in line with company branding at all times.
  • Manage the onboarding process for all new employees, inclusive of reference checks, right to work and driver safety checks.

HR Policies, Procedures, and Handbooks:

  • Develop, implement, and update HR policies, procedures, and employee handbooks as required to ensure legal compliance and alignment with company objectives.

Employee Engagement and Wellbeing:

  • Lead the charity committee to support the chosen charity of the year using various monthly initiatives and fundraisers.
  • Implement initiatives to enhance employee engagement, satisfaction, and wellbeing across the business.
  • Manage stay interviews, exit interviews and feedback opportunities to encourage engagement across the business.

HR Administration and Compliance:

  • Oversee HR administration tasks such as payroll instruction, benefits administration, employee records management, HRIS management, whilst ensuring compliance with relevant employment laws and regulations.

Stakeholder Collaboration:

  • Build strong relationships with managers across all departments to provide strategic HR advice, guidance, and coaching on HR best practices and employment law.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior management on HR-related matters.
  • Present at monthly manager, and quarterly board meetings on relevant HR issues, providing data, metrics and key trends to support.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external partners, such as recruitment agencies where necessary.

Person Specification

Education, Qualifications & Experience Criteria

Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or related field.
  • HR certification (e.g., CIPD)
  • Similar experience working in a standalone HR Manager role.
  • Proven experience as an HR generalist with a focus on employee relations, HR policies, recruitment, and compliance.
  • Strong knowledge of employment legislation and HR best practices.
  • Experience in managing employee relations issues including disciplinary processes, grievances, and performance management.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and HR systems (e.g., SafeHR)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build rapport and credibility with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.

Desirable

Understanding of the EV and Power industry is preferred, but not essential.
