In North Staffs CAMHS we are looking to expand our Mental Health Practitioners to work in our friendly and supportive team. The North Staffs CAMHS team is a well-established multi-disciplinary team that works with children and young people aged 0 - 18 years. There are professionals from a range of backgrounds in the team, including psychiatry, Occupational Therapy, nursing, psychology, social work and CBT therapists. The team is one of three community CAMHS teams in the region.

We are looking for a Mental Health Practitioner who is trained in working in a range of mental health difficulties, enjoys being a part of a multi-disciplinary team, and is committed to delivering high quality services for children, young people and their families. North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare Trust operates flexible working for staff which includes working from home, as well as from a base, to deliver CAMHS services. We are keen to explore new and innovative ways of meeting the needs of the children, young people and families who access our services. There is an opportunity within the team to expand on further training developments and we are keen to value your profession and how to embed this into our growing MDT team.

Main duties of the job


  • The post holder will be required to engage in assessment, treatment and intervention for young people and their families alongside holding a caseload. There are various experiences within the CAMHS team should you have a specific interest of focus. We are keen to gain individuals who have a diverse background in mental health with transferable skills and who want a new challenge within a CAMHS team. Our team focus on staff wellbeing and how we can ensure this is part of our culture and patient care as a priority.
  • To work with a defined caseload of service users as part of a multi-disciplinary team, providing assessment, care planning and care delivery for service users with complex and multiple conditions. This will include the provision of highly skilled clinical interventions, clinical assessment, risk assessments / risk management and promoting recovery and inclusion and ensuring patient centred practice with service users and their carers.
  • To provide specialist advice to other members of staff.
  • To provide leadership, management and supervision / appraisal for junior multi-disciplinary staff and lead / coordinate / supervise teams of staff in the delivery and evaluation of care.
  • To liaise with all members of the multi-disciplinary team and outside agencies in the implementation of patient care.
  • To ensure that care activities are research based and in keeping with changes in the field of activity.

Job description

Job responsibilities


  • Complete evidence based functional assessments of a persons behaviour in partnership with the service user and other members of the multi-disciplinary team
  • Following appropriate assessment, develop person centred care plans to enable the proactive management of presenting behaviour
  • To develop and maintain therapeutic relationships with children, young people, their families and carers who may at times be in situations of emotional distress and presenting in an aggressive manner.

  • A nationally recognised professional qualification in health or Social Work which must be registered with the appropriate professional governing body, such as, HCPC, UKCC.
  • Evidence of continued professional development

  • Experience within a mental health service.
  • Demonstrate the ability to carry out all care needs without direct supervision

Knowledge

Essential


  • Awareness of national and local policies and how these impact on service provision.
  • Has received training (either formal of through experience) to carry out both operational and clinical risk assessments within scope of practice.
