Cardiff and Vale Podiatry Services are looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic and adaptable individual who is passionate about providing clinical excellence. This friendly busy department consists of approximately 60 staff and provides services across Cardiff and the Vale from multiple sites including community clinics, hospitals and patients own homes.

The post is amenable to part time or full time working. The Podiatry Service offers a comprehensive rotational scheme, for both entry level and experienced staff. The post holder will need to have excellent diagnostic and clinical skills to deliver a range of high quality Podiatry treatments including complex musculoskeletal and biomechanical interventions and wound care across community and acute services.


The post holder will be working closely with other community healthcare workers and provider agencies within a variety of care settings including community clinics, domiciliary work and care homes and contributes to the development of podiatry. The successful applicant will be responsible for leadership of the Wellbeing of Future Generations Portfolio, maintaining a complex clinical caseload.


This post is fixed term/secondment for 12 months to meet the needs of the service.

In addition to the Job description this role will be responsible for leadership of the Wellbeing of Future Generations portfolio:


To advise and assist the Senior Podiatry Leadership Team (SPLT) in planning, developing and evaluating the service, regarding current legislation and local and National policies in health prevention within podiatric practice and the wellbeing of future generations act. Embrace and implement long-lasting, positive change to Podiatry Services with emphasis on integration, involvement, long-term, collaboration and prevention.


Explore advancement in practice/literature with a view to trial and adopt within service where appropriate. To co-ordinate and lead the implementation of patient centred care in line with Prudent Healthcare principles. To work with SPLT and Research & Development lead to develop outcome measures to support value-based delivery of care/health gain.


To lead on education strategies in delivering education to improve patients health literacy and activation to self-care, improving health and wellbeing. Liaise with other Healthcare Professionals, 3rd sector and others as required to support self-management and care closer to home. To reduce /prevent the need for podiatry care by stopping problems happening in the first place, in both the short and long term.


To co-ordinate and lead the implementation of value based healthcare to deliver prudent, effective and efficient patient centred care, with service wide contribution through PADR. Liaise with Education lead to ensure undergraduate involvement in service evaluation and audit where appropriate.


To act as a resource to support, mentor and develop Podiatrists and other members of the health team and provide in-service education in areas relevant to health prevention. Professional registration with HCPC as a Podiatrist with a BSc in Podiatric Medicine or equivalent Diploma in Podiatric Medicine and the ability to gain appropriate registered qualification for the supply and administration of prescriptions only medicines (POMS) within an agreed timescale.
Postgraduate study to masters level within the specialism or equivalent
Local anaesthetic certificate
Non medical referrer

Post graduate teaching certificate
Developing Quality Improvement Skills
Demonstrate a high level of post graduate specialist knowledge in the following areas for both adults and paediatrics: - Musculoskeletal disorders and interventions - Orthotic/appliance intervention - Dermatological, neurological and vascular disorders, tissue viability and minor surgery.
Significant NHS clinical podiatry post graduate experience or equivalent
Evidence of continued professional development in specialist field and with a multidisciplinary team
Experience of assessing and treating High risk Patients particularly Diabetics, vascular insufficiency, wound management, terminally ill ,mental health problems or learning disabilities
Experience of treating patients in clinics, acute and outreach settings
Experience in manufacture of orthotics and prescription writing
Experience in undertaking advanced lower limb risk classification
Ability to undertake specialist diagnostic assessments including Gait analysis
Ability to communicate effectively with a broad spectrum of the general public and health care professionals
Understanding of the podiatry professions clinical processes, procedures and agenda
Current knowledge of NHS policies and strategies relevant to the post
Understanding of the requirements of Patient safety, quality and Clinical Governance
Knowledge of Health and safety, COSHH regulations
Use of Force plate for gait analysis and pressure point identification and offloading
Use of specialist equipment relevant to this specialism Specialist knowledge of a range of surgical techniques
Academic theories of communication/health promotion/education
Understanding of diversity issues
