About our nursery:
Cottam Nursery School offers very personalised childcare and education for children from 2-5 years. Our family-run childrens nursery is situated in the old village school. We support and enhance childrens learning and development in a way that enables them to have fun and truly enjoy this very precious period in their lives.
Since its inception over 36 years ago, Cottam Nursery School prides itself on a strong sense of family and community. It organises and participates in local events all year round. The nursery has excellent links with the local community. In addition to the close relationships, we maintain with parents, our open-door policy and excellent family links, including learning journeys, are often complemented with educational interaction from special guests. The Nursery School has gone from strength to strength over the past few years and we require an enthusiastic individual with the right qualifications, experience, personality and drive to support the children and existing staff and learn and embrace our values.
To effectively deliver the new EYFS ensuring that the individual needs and interest of children in the setting are met.
To act as a key worker to your designated group of children.
To keep records of your key childrens development and learning journals and share with parents, carers and other key adults in the childs life and ensuring each childs needs are recognised and met.
To capture evidence to create and share early learning journeys through the Tapestry system.
To complete relevant forms concerning your key childrens early learning journey within a set, reasonable time frame. To develop and maintain strong partnerships and communication with parents/carers to facilitate day-to-day caring and early learning needs.
To ensure the provision of a high-quality environment to meet the needs of individual children whilst having an awareness of any disabilities, family cultures and medical histories.
To assist in setting up the playrooms for the daily programme and to help tidy away at the end of sessions.
To advise the manager/deputy of any concerns, e.g. over children, parents, the safety of the environment, preserving confidentiality as necessary.
To be involved in out of working hours activities, e.g. training, staff meetings, open days, parents evenings, etc.
To be flexible within working practices of the setting, undertaking other responsible duties where needed.
To read, understand and adhere to all policies and procedures relevant to your role and the safe running of the setting.
To keep completely confidential any information regarding the children, their families or other staff that is acquired as part of the job.
To consistently operate within nursery policies on Equality and Diversity, promoting equal opportunities for all staff and children in relation to gender, race, disability, and special educational needs.
To support nursery assistants, students and volunteers.
To ensure good standards of safety, hygiene and cleanliness are maintained at all times.
To participate as an active member of the team, involved in planning and implementing a suitable range of activities for the children in their care.
Education and Training
Relevant and recognised Level 3 qualification (childcare or early years), or willingness to train to this level - D
Desire to continue with professional development - E
Recent Safeguarding Level 1 training - D
Basic Food Hygiene - D
Experience of working with children - E
Experience of working in an early years setting (at least two years) - E
Experience of implementation of the EYFS - E
Knowledge of legislation relevant to Early Years such as the new EYFS, special educational needs and disabilities and safeguarding - E
Knowledge of child development and childrens needs - E
Knowledge of risk management and experience of risk assessment - D
Ability to develop trusting and respectful relationships with children - E
Ability to communicate well with adults and children - E
Competent with word processing software - E
Ability to demonstrate creative abilities - D
This post requires a DBS check due to the nature of employment. An enhanced DBS and satisfactory references would be obtained prior to commencement of employment.
