The interim Head of Communications and Engagement will be a pioneering, collaborative, and authentic leader, driven by our mission and committed to delivering our Corporate Plan. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, they will exemplify our values, driving high performance, colleague development, and staff engagement. This role requires a dynamic, innovative, and solution-focused leader with proven experience in delivering impactful communications and stakeholder engagement. The role also involves enhancing Zero Waste Scotland’s corporate profile both domestically and internationally, working closely with the Chief Executive, Executive Leadership Team, and Board.

Develop and implement the Zero Waste Scotland Communications and Engagement strategy, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
Oversee all external communications, including media relations, stakeholder engagement, corporate reputation management, and social media, to influence target audiences and drive behavior change.
Ensure consistency in corporate communications and internal engagement to enhance the organization's reputation and culture.
Serve as the lead advisor on communications strategies, supporting the Executive Leadership Team in risk management and opportunity maximization.
Manage resources and budgets effectively, focusing on cost-efficient communication solutions.
Lead and develop the communications team, fostering professional growth and ensuring alignment with organizational priorities.
Build and maintain relationships with journalists, influencers, and other key stakeholders to advance Zero Waste Scotland’s objectives.
Shape and uphold the strategic narrative, brand vision, and values of Zero Waste Scotland.
Proven leadership in communications, marketing, or stakeholder engagement.
Experience in maximizing digital presence, including social media, digital marketing, and websites.
Expertise in delivering targeted communications in complex environments.
Strong brand understanding and ability to inspire commitment to purpose.
Skilled in developing and implementing communication strategies and plans.
Success in building trust and effective relationships with stakeholders.
Demonstrated success in creating impactful communication plans that build profile and influence.
