SBU/Department: Schools of Law and Education
FTE: 1.0fte (working 37 hours per week (Job-share and Part time will also be considered))
Duration of Contract: Permanent
Annual Leave: 35 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year

In the Schools of Law and Education, we pride ourselves on delivering a truly innovative learning and teaching experience, coupled with practice-led, hands-on experience. Our students consistently provide excellent feedback about their educational experience, which is also evidenced through the number of students graduating with good honours degrees and our strong employability rates.
The Schools teach long standing, and very successful, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Law, Criminology and Education in a £10m purpose-built Building on the University of Hertfordshire’s de Havilland campus, which includes a full-scale replica Crown Court Room and state-of-the-art teaching facilities.
The successful candidate will, in liaison with the Senior team, provide academic leadership of the new BSc (Hons) Professional Policing programme.
The postholder will provide guidance, direction, and leadership to a team of people and assume responsibility for quality standards and the enhancement of learning, teaching and assessment and the overall academic experience of students for policing and related programmes. You may be asked to line manage a group of staff within the School and will be expected to develop and teach innovative, engaging and research-informed modules.
The Schools of Law and Education are looking for individuals who are motivated to work with students, staff and members of the national and regional policing and criminal justice community to help deliver the University’s Transforming Lives vision.
Experience of teaching on the BSc Professional Policing degree or degree apprenticeship in professional policing practice, with the ability to use appropriate teaching, learning and assessment methods or substantial relevant industry experience, is essential. Alongside this, you will demonstrable ability to use technology to enhance the quality and flexibility of delivery to students. You will be able to network and form good working relationships, with excellent interpersonal skills. You will be a self-starter with excellent organisational and management skills, particularly when managing multiple tasks with conflicting deadlines.
You will have an understanding of the University’s strategic plan, regulations and processes and employability plans. You will be proficient in English and have the ability to negotiate with stakeholders. You will have a highly developed sense of professionalism and a commitment to graduate success, including a commitment to equal opportunities and to ensuring that students from all backgrounds have the support they need to succeed and progress in their careers.
You will hold a Bachelors in policing or a related field and a Masters/PhD qualification or equivalent professional experience in the field. A teaching qualification and / or Fellowship of Advance HE is essential.
The University offers every individual the opportunity to succeed. We want our staff to represent diverse life experiences and different cultural heritage. We recognise that the field is not ‘level’ and want to actively address barriers to progression. We also challenge stereotypes through stimulating discussions on sensitive topics and partner with networks both within and outside of the University to enhance inclusivity in the workplace. We wholeheartedly encourage and welcome applications from individuals from Black and Minority Ethnic (BAME) and LGBTQ+ backgrounds who are currently under-represented within our School. We offer a range of employee benefits including generous annual leave, flexible location opportunities within the UK, discounted Sports Village memberships, personal and professional development and family-friendly policies. #Apply online at
