Wakefield are currently a full time Social Worker within the Mainstream Team of the Fostering Service, the successful candidate will be offered £35 per hour. Wakefield work at pace to try and ensure that we have a fostering service that meets the needs of our children and young people in foster care and allows them to feel safe, secure, and able to thrive.
Thriving children in thriving families need exceptional people to support them. Being a Senior Social Worker within a busy team you will be passionate about matching children to the right foster carers, providing placement stability, and achieving good outcomes and permanence for children.
Duties:
To work with carers to ensure that they fully understand their role, identify and capture their development needs on a personal development plan (PDP).
Assist in the 'Skills to Foster' training as appropriate.
To provide support to carers to enable them to evidence level of competence against required training standards within timescales, and following an assessment, sign off each standard.
Provide and record regular supervision to allocated foster carers
Provide support based on evidence and best practice, which is tailored to meet individual child and the foster family and appropriate to the situation.
Provide written case notes and reports
Understand and recognise that children's safeguarding needs change, report concerns appropriately to your line manager in line with safeguarding policy and procedures
Carry out in-depth assessment of applicants including undertaking initial visits and carer assessments.
To contribute to Foster Carer Annual Reviews, within required timescales, providing written evidence of competence and presenting annual review reports to panel as required.
Ensure that risks are managed with the child's best interest at the centre of all decision making and that subsequent actions are followed through.
Essential Qualifications:
Social Work Degree (BA/BSc/MA/MSc) or equivalent
Social Work England registration
Experience working with families in a social work setting
Strong assessment and case management skills
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and advocacy skills
Ability to build positive relationships with families
Commitment to working in a strengths-based approach
Knowledge of family support interventions and models
Experience working with diverse communities
Understanding of relevant legislation and policies (e.g., Children Act 1989, Working Together to Safeguard Children)
Experience using case management software
Experience working with families facing specific challenges (e.g., domestic violence, substance misuse, mental health issues)
