This is an Executive post Reporting to the Finance Director and collaborating closely with the CEO/Artistic Director, Executive Director and the Board.

We have an exceptional opportunity for a highly skilled and experienced Commercial Director to join the Senior Leadership Team at our prestigious global arts venue, Factory International.

As we enter the next phase after the successful opening of AVIVA Studios in October, we are looking to appoint a dynamic and collaborative to join us on our journey.

The Executive Commercial Director will provide commercial leadership for Factory International (FI) and Manchester International Festival (MIF), with a focus on revenue generation, business growth and expansion and profitability whilst collaborating closely with the executive team and the board to develop the strategic plans for Factory International.

This pivotal role will lead innovative business development initiatives, forging new partnerships, collaborations and growth opportunities and will adeptly identify potential markets, evaluate revenue streams and negotiate strategic alliances to propel business growth at FI and MIF.

The key responsibilities for the Executive Commercial Director role include;

Commercial Strategy Development

  • Identify and capitalise on commercial development opportunities, devising and implementing strategies to drive revenue and business growth with a focus on monetising assets and maximising financial returns from the brands, products, and activities of FI/MIF

Business Development/ Commercial Innovation

  • Identify and drive innovative new business opportunities and projects aimed at diversifying the offerings of FI and MIF. Utilise out of sector thinking and secure funding to fuel innovation and initiatives

Financial Income Accountability and Managing and Driving Achievement against Profit Targets

  • Assume accountability for income generation through competitive pricing strategies for commercial events, commercial sponsorships and partnerships, philanthropic donations, outsourced food and beverage offering and merchandising. Ensure profit maximisation through driving efficiencies and embedding commercial best practice in the organisation. Working closely with the Executive Director and marketing, box office, membership schemes and other commercial workstreams and projects

Cross Departmental Working

  • Working collaboratively across the organisation to lead and align commercial objectives with overall vision and values, business plans, goals and objectives. To foster and develop cross-functional teamwork and communication to drive organisational benefits and success

Leadership for Teams:

Commercial Events

Oversee the Head of Commercial Events and their team to cultivate and enhance the commercial events and promoter-led music hires for Aviva Studios and MIF, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives. Ensure that Aviva Studios is the go-to destination, promoting the space and everything that comes with it as a desirable destination.

Commercial Brand Partnerships and Sponsorship

Oversee the Head of Brand Partnerships and Sponsorships and their teams and to define the strategy to identify, secure and manage key commercial partnerships and sponsorships, leveraging opportunities to maximise returns on content at FI and MIF.

Philanthropy

Oversee the Development Director and supporting the team with the strategic development of the fundraising strategy at FI and the achievement of targets. These include fundraising through targeted local, regional, and international Individual Giving and Trust & Foundations.

Food & Beverage/ Merchandising.

Line Management of the Hospitality and Retail Operations Manager. Provide commercial decision making around activity to maximise audience spend and engagement to realise the financial return and opportunities of Aviva Studios.

  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and develop long-term commercial strategies and partnerships aligned with organisational goals and objectives
  • Experience in leading and developing high-performing teams, with a focus on fostering a culture of inclusion, collaboration, innovation, and excellence
  • Strong financial acumen with the ability to analyse financial data and make data-driven decisions to optimise commercial performance
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate a compelling vision and complex commercial concepts to diverse stakeholders, both internal and external
  • Capacity to adapt to changing market conditions and emerging trends to capitalise on new opportunities and thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced, and evolving environment, with a proactive and flexible approach to problem-solving and decision-making

  • Experience in relevant industries such as arts and culture, entertainment, events with a deep understanding of industry dynamics and trends
  • Track record of spearheading innovative projects and initiatives that have led to commercial success and differentiation in the marketplace
