Consultant Ophthalmologist Medical Retina

We are looking for a bright enthusiastic Ophthalmologist to join our expanding Ophthalmology department, this individual should have a sound general ophthalmic training and additionally should have sub-specialist training in Medical Retina and Uveitis.
The successful candidate is expected to be on the specialist register, or eligible to enter the specialist register within the next six months. They will be joining a dynamic unit that provides most ophthalmic sub-speciality services to it local population of 500,000 and some tertiary service to the wider region. Main duties of the job A working week for a full-time consultant is comprised of 10 programmed activities (PAs) each of which has a nominal timetable value of 4 hours. The job plan listed in the job description is for indicative purpose only and the final plan will be agreed with the Clinical Director after appointment. As the service develops, evening and weekend work may become part of this post. As a teaching hospital department you will have the opportunity to teach, train and develop the next generation of medical professionals, as well as be involved in a variety of research projects. About us You will work together with the Medical Retina specialist team. Other members of the team will include doctors, advanced clinical practitioners, optometrists, nurses and ophthalmic trainees from the peninsula deanery. Being a good team worker and leader will be essential in the role. We are a forward looking department and as such are embracing modern concepts such as the use of virtual clinics, high volume cataract surgery and the development of extended practice roles. Comprehensive knowledge of subspecialty subject. Understanding of NHS. Good time management. Demonstrate evidence of wide based specialty knowledge. Attended appropriate courses/meetings in the last 6 years covering the spectrum of the entire specialty. Fellowship experience. Attended subspecialty specific meeting or courses within the last 3 years. Research & Clinical Audit Presentations or publications in peer reviewed journals. Able to conduct clinical audit. Evidence of a research interest. Current research. Research in a specialty interest or trauma. Extensively published. Presentations at local/ regional/national/ international meetings. Publications and presentations in subspecialty subject. Demonstrate an enthusiasm to continue with research and clinical audit. Relevant audit projects Statistical Knowledge Teaching Ability to teach clinical and practical skills. Demonstrate experience in having taught junior doctors. Evidence of experience and ability in teaching. Supervision of projects. ATLS instructor. Training the trainers course or equivalent. Evidence of enthusiasm and experiencing teaching undergraduates, post-graduates and other health-care professionals. Communication & interpersonal skills Ability to work in a team.
