5 hours per weekAs part of the apprentice scheme you will have study days which will be discussed at the recruitment day.We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who can work as part of a team and on their own initiative to join our busy team of medical device maintenance technicians / medical equipment library.You will also be trained to maintain and repair a range of simple medical devices used across the hospital.To join us you will need to be reliable, flexible and highly motivated with good technical, written and verbal communication skills.


Full training will be given.On completion of the scheme, there is potential for recruitment as a permanent band 2 within the service to enable the successful candidate to continue their training and development.


This post is to be 50% in the Clinical Engineering workshop and 50% in the Medical Equipment Library at Glenfield Hospital.

Maintaining/repairing a wide range of Electro/Mechanical Medical devices,
Commissioning and decommissioning new and redundant medical devices.

To assist under strict supervision the basis repair and servicing of medical equipment used throughout the University Hospitals of Leicester and SLA sites. This work requires basic knowledge of any of the following Analogue, Digital Electronics, Microprocessor, pneumatics and mechanical techniques. It involves fault finding, diagnosing and repairs of medical equipment to component level.
Strict supervision in functional and safety testing of new and repaired medical equipment prior to use within University Hospitals of Leicester and external SLA sites covered by the department.
Strict supervision for involvement in scheduled maintenance and calibration schemes to ensure the electrical safety and correct operation of medical equipment.
Participating in goods inwards/outwards procedures of the department, particularly for medical equipment and spare parts.
To assist with the collection and return of equipment within and outside the hospital and occasional transport of heavy goods during new installations or department migrations. Manual handling of heavy equipment is confined patient areas.
Using departmental/Trust computer system for record keeping, equipment testing/upgrades and communication. Carrying out light office duties such as answering calls, sending parcels, booking in equipment, some filing.
To adhere to and safely use decontamination, waste disposal, infection control and other Trust policies when handling medical equipment.
Gain the knowledge of and support the use and implementation of departmental procedures, Trust policies and other legislation related to medical equipment or work practices.
To gain higher electronics/mechanical knowledge and specialist knowledge and experience across wide range of medical equipment and also wide range of models within each group.
Training & Qualifications
3 GCSE's at grade C or above in English, Mathematics and a Science or equivalent.

Ability and willingness to learn and attend training courses

Work with members of the clinical engineering team to develop effective maintenance plan
