Senior Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Oncology

The post is for a Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Neurology and is particularly suited to someone hoping to gain more paediatric neurology experience prior to entering speciality training and considering some out of programme experience. The post will be based at Leeds Childrens Hospital, Leeds General Infirmary. The successful candidate will join the team of Paediatric Neurologists in providing tertiary Paediatric Neurology services for Leeds and West Yorkshire.
The department of paediatric neurosciences provides services to the children of West, East and North Yorkshire together with NE Lincolnshire, serving a population of 1 million children from a diverse range of backgrounds.
Inpatient services are based at the Leeds Childrens Hospital within a dedicated paediatric neurosciences unit, where children are jointly cared for by paediatric neurologists and neurosurgeons. There are strong links with all other paediatric subspecialties co-located in the Childrens Hospital including the regional neonatal and paediatric intensive care units.
Support inpatients under the paediatric neuroscience teams (neurology and neurosurgery).
Review of acute consultations in Paediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care Units, general paediatric and other co-located specialities.
As a senior trainee the post holder would be expected to hold the hospital arrest bleep as per rota.
Out of hour cover either general paediatric assessment unit or inpatients (including paediatric diabetes, rheumatology, endocrinology) or paediatric specialities (Neurosciences, Hepatology, Nephrology, Gastroenterology, Oncology & Haematology).
Undertake outpatient clinics along-side a supervising Consultant Paediatric Neurologist with appropriate supervision and admin support.
Delivering teaching sessions to the hospital lower speciality teaching programme.
This is an exciting opportunity to gain experience in an established multidisciplinary team comprising of over 20 specialist colleagues across physiotherapy, occupational therapy, psychology, speech and language therapy, neuropsychology, specialist nurses and a trauma and rehabilitation coordinator.
There are 6 Consultant Paediatric Neurologists (Dr Anne-Marie Childs, Dr Karen Pysden, Dr Helen McCullagh, Dr Lydia Green, Dr Munni Ray and Dr Micheal Taylor), Dr Cristina Martos-Lozano a Consultant Paediatrician with expertise in Paediatric Neuromuscular disorders and 4 Consultant Paediatric Neurosurgeons (Mr John Goodden, Mr Atul Tyagi, Mr Gnanamurthy Sivakumar and Ms Rebecca Chave-Cox).
The paediatric neuroscience team benefit from the support of neuroradiology, neurophysiology, neuropathology and genetics services.

The postholder will support the inpatient need of patients under the paediatric neurosciences teams (neurology and neurosurgery). We are a busy tertiary neurosciences unit embedded within a large childrens hospital with a Paediatric Intensive Care Unit ensuring the postholder will gain experience in a wide-range of neurological disorders.
The postholder will actively contribute and attend the neuroscience meetings including: neuro-oncology neuroradiology histopathology, neurophysiology and neurogenetics meeting.
We would anticipate that the post holder to attend regular outpatient clinics. Clinics include: General Neurology Epilepsy (including VNS, Ketogenic Diet and Dravet Syndrome Clinics) Neuromuscular Inherited White Matter Disorders Neuroinflammatory Tuberous Sclerosis Neurovascular and Complex Movement Disorder.
The post holder will have the opportunity to become involved with departmental, hospital and regional teaching programmes.
The Leeds Paediatric neurology team have an active research portfolio.
We have expanded our research portfolio and are a well-established Research Hub site outside the national research centres. Leeds is a centre for a number of observational and interventional studies in Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and Spinal Muscular Atrophy.
The paediatric epilepsy team are also currently expanding their research portfolio and the successful applicant will be expected to take part in research clinics and activities across these services.
The postholder will also support the research activity within the paediatric neurology service.
Support will be provided to assist with for projects/publications/ presentations.
The postholder will participate in departmental governance activities, including audit, service evaluation and risk management
Out of hours cover will be for the general paediatric or speciality rota.
1 General Training and Qualifications
They will need to be confident in the assessment of sick children
They will need knowledge of the impact of chronic life limiting disorders and be prepared to develop their expertise and understanding of neuromuscular disorders and paediatric epilepsy.
They will need to have, or be prepared to undertake, good clinical practice (GCP) training.
Experience in paediatric neurology and with managing children with paediatric epilepsy is desirable.
The appointee will have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English that are adequate to enable effective communications about medical topics with patients and colleagues. They need to be enthusiastic, keen to learn and demonstrate commitment to delivering high quality care as part of the neurosciences team

Experience in the management of children and young people
Advanced Paediatric Life Support (or equivalent)
Experience of research in paediatrics/paediatric neurology.

Undergone training in teaching
Undergone training in research or be able to evidence ability to carry out medical research
Eligibility, Fitness to practice, and Language Skills
Completion of Level 1 training in a paediatric training programme in the United Kingdom (or equivalent 36 months experience in Paediatric Medicine)
Interest in paediatric Neurology

Experience of managing children with neurological or chronic disorders.
Membership examination of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health or equivalent
