We have an opportunity for a skilled, enthusiastic clinician who enjoys working with children in an integrated multidisciplinary team. As a band 6 Paediatric rotational physiotherapist you will gain experience in various specialist areas including acute respiratory, neurology, neurosurgery, neuromuscular, neonatology, oncology, orthopaedics, musculoskeletal, cystic fibrosis, primary ciliary dyskinesia, surgery, nephrology and hepatology.


The post holder will work along side the band 7 team providing a service to the above areas and helping develop the physiotherapy service across the trust. Children may be managed on the wards, intensive care units, neonatal units, specialist clinics, in the out patient department and in the community.


The post holder will work closely with the multidisciplinary team including medical staff, nursing staff, occupational therapists, speech therapists, play therapists, dieticians and psychologists. They will also be encouraged to liaise with other agencies that support children and their families.


The Childrens Physiotherapy Team is committed to the concepts of clinical governance and staff development through appraisal, training, research and audit. Our mission is to make a positive difference in children's lives through the use of specialist, individualised and fun therapy in partnership with the MDT, the child and their family.


The post holder will contribute to the Paediatric Oncall service
Assessment and treatment of children as inpatients , outpatients in hospital and at home and school


All staff are encouraged to be involved in quality improvement
The childrens physiotherapy team is a team of approximately 40 physiotherapists and physiotherapy assistants who work across Leeds Childrens Hospital. The team is based on the Leeds General Infirmary site but also covers the Neonatal Unit at St James Hospital. Leeds Teaching Hospitals is committed to our process of redeploying 'at risk' members of our existing workforce to new roles. To perform physiotherapeutic assessment of paediatric patients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions, to provide a diagnosis and develop and deliver an individualised treatment programme.


He/She will participate in the Band 6 paediatric rotational scheme which involves working across a range of settings.


To be responsible for their own continuing professional and personal development.


To participate in the Paediatric Out of Hours service


Access to advice and support from a senior physiotherapists is available if required, clinical work is not routinely evaluated.


To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner within this specialist field.
Degree in Physiotherapy or equivalent
Health Professions Council Registration

Substantial post graduate clinical experience including relevant core areas of respiratory medicine, neurology, musculoskeletal in and outpatients with at least one rotation in Paediatrics


Experience in Paediatric Respiratory care
Professional, hardworking and flexible with a positive attitude
Participate in clinical education of less experiences staff/students
Ability to cope working a stressful environment including the ability to impart information, on a daily basis regarding poor prognosis for rehabilitation.
Involvement in audit and an understanding of research and quality issues
Able to fulfil Occupational Health requirements for the post (with reasonable adjustments if necessary), including clearance on blood borne viruses in compliance with Trust Policy
