At present, all of our Intensive Care Consultants are from an Anaesthetic background, however we welcome applicants with dual training in other specialties.
Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are the proud providers of acute hospital and community services to the people of the Wigan Borough and surrounding areas. WWL are committed to placing the patient at the heart of everything we do, and in the provision of safe, effective care that acknowledges and ensures dignity. Please note that senior positions (AFC band 8A or above) may be expected to participate in an on-call rota, if the role is predominantly operational.
The successful candidate will participate in the Intensive Care Consultant on-call rota and Hot Week system as well as completing regular sessions in their dual specialty. The Intensive Care Unit is based at the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary in Wigan.
At present, all of our Intensive Care Consultants are from an Anaesthetic background, however we welcome applicants with dual training in other specialties.
Possession of / eligibility for Fellowship / Associate Fellowship of Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine
Eligibility for inclusion on the Specialist Register
Certificate in Medical Education
Practical experience in the management of critical care patients
Previous appointments that have provided professional training in Intensive Care Medicine
Proven experience of Audit and Quality Improvement with evidence of change
Ability to work in a team with professional colleagues, both medical and non-medical, and other Departments
Skills in echocardiography
Higher training in regional anaesthesia or perioperative medicine
Practical experience in Anaesthetising and management of high-risk patients requiring general and regional anaesthesia
Committed to high quality patient care
Speak English to an appropriate standard relevant to their role, i.e. with confidence and accuracy, using correct sentence structures and vocabulary, and without hesitation
