Manchester, United Kingdom Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust Full time

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join us in developing the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Royal Manchester Children's Hospital. This is a full time 10 Programmed Activity (PA) post.

Applicants for this post must have extensive experience in general medical, surgical (including neonatal), cardiac and neurosurgical paediatric intensive care.

RMCH is designated as a Lead Centre for PICU within the UK and participates in the training of Grid Trainees in Paediatric Intensive Care. There are approximately 4000 intensive care bed days per year (over 750 admissions per year). Day to day care of children in the PICU is managed and led by the team of eight WTE PICU consultants in consultation with subspecialties as appropriate.

Main duties of the job

Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CMFT) and the University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust (UHSM) have joined together to create a new Foundation Trust, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT). As a result, it's an extremely exciting and challenging period in the delivery of health and social care in Greater Manchester and one that provides a wealth of opportunity. Our new organisation will provide a single hospital service across the city of Manchester, where these changes will make a real difference to the health outcomes and quality of life for the communities we serve.

Duties will be based in PICU at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital to provide direct clinical care. The successful candidates will join the team providing 24-hour cover for PICU. They will work as part of the consultant team and provide rota cover for the unit. Consultant cover is provided on site from 08:00 until22:00 seven days a week with on call cover out of these hours and the job plan reflects this.

About us

MFT is England's largest NHS Trust with a turnover of £2.6bn & is on a different scale than most other NHS Trusts. We're creating an exceptional integrated health & social care system for the 1 million patients who rely on our services every year.

Bringing together 10 hospitals & community services from across Manchester, Trafford & beyond, we champion collaborative working & transformation, encouraging our 28,000 workforce to pursue their most ambitious goals. We set standards that other Trusts seek to emulate so you'll benefit from a scale of opportunity that is nothing short of extraordinary.

We've also created a digitally enabled organisation to improve clinical quality, patient & staff experience, operational effectiveness & driving research and innovation through the introduction of Hive our brand-new Electronic Patient Record system which we've launched in September 2022.

We're proud to be a major academic Research Centre & Education provider, providing you with a robust infrastructure to encourage and facilitate high-quality research programmes. What's more, we're excited to be embarking on our new Green Plan which will set out how MFT continues to play its part in making healthcare more sustainable.

At MFT, we create and foster a culture of inclusion and belonging, provide equal opportunities for career development that are fair, open and transparent, protecting your health and wellbeing and shaping the future of our organisation together.
