Locum Consultant Paediatric Surgery

The appointee will be expected to contribute to the provision of the elective general surgery of childhood. The appointee will work at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, Wythenshawe Hospital and at other outreach sites that may include Lancaster and Bolton.
The Department of Paediatric Surgery provides a secondary service, together with a busy tertiary service which forms a large proportion of our workload. We are co-located with St Mary’s Hospital which has one of the largest Neonatal units in the UK.
The appointee will be expected to contribute to the provision of the elective surgery of childhood. The appointee will work at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital and Wythenshawe Hospital with outreach commitments at hospitals around Greater Manchester. The appointee will be expected to have experience in vascular access and contribute to this service in conjunction with colleagues in paediatric surgery, anaesthetics, and interventional radiology. The role may include the allocation of, approximately, one weekend all-day high-volume low complexity theatre every four weeks. The post holder will provide emergency paediatric and neonatal surgery as part of a hot-week system with prospective on call cover. There is a separate TOF rota covered by three consultants and a daytime lower GI rota covered by four consultant. The appointee will be contracted for ten to twelve programmed activities per week and these will be fixed within the department job plan; part time applicants will be welcomed. The appointee would be expected to cover for colleagues on annual, and study leave as well as short term sick leave. The consultant will provide continuing responsibility for patients in their charge in line with established hospital process.
