Isle of Wight Jobs are recruiting for a Branch Director at a highly regarded animal rescue centre that has been an important part of Island life for many years.

This unique and inspiring role would put the successful candidate at the heart of the animal welfare community making a difference to thousands of creatures all great and small.

We are looking for an experienced Manager who would be responsible for a wide variety of functions including Fundraising, Finance, PR/Marketing and Retail activities across the Island to name just a few.

A love of animals and a passion for animal welfare are key to this role as well as the ability to deal with a wide range of issues in a compassionate and caring manner.

Reporting to the board of trustees you will be responsible for the management of the branch and the line management of staff including the Animal Centre Manager and Area Retail Manager.

Hours are 37.5 hours per week, which may include weekend working as required. Pay will be disclosed on application but is highly competitive and in keeping with national expectations.

Main duties

  • To provide the necessary leadership to develop and motivate staff and volunteers to implement an effective strategy.
  • To deliver effective animal welfare services and a financially sustainable future for the branch, which includes an animal centre and retail shops.
  • To provide a strategic overview across all areas of branch activities.
  • Drive the performance of the branch and provides guidance to the operational managers in delivery of their performance objectives.
  • To have overall responsibility for recruiting, training and retaining volunteers
  • To be responsible for the branch and for formulating a strategic plan for the development of the branch, working closely with Trustees.
  • To attend monthly Trustee meetings and produce regular reports for Trustees and other reports as required.
  • To engage with businesses across the island to maximize income generation and grow overall support.
  • To work proactively with other agencies and local authorities to maximise support for animal welfare initiatives and fundraising.
  • To create and lead a schedule of fundraising events across the year to harness the potential for local support in the community.
  • To understand accounts, be able to analyse financial information, monitor performance and identify trends.
  • To produce an annual budget for the Branch and ensure financial monitoring to achieve it and address any issues that arise throughout the course of the year.
  • To be responsible for ensuring the delivery of financial information to Trustees in a timely manner, and when required.
  • To oversee the Trading Company accounts, acting as company secretary, ensuring reporting is compliant and delivered in a timely manner.

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Leadership and line management experience within a diverse team.
  • Proven ability to identify, develop and deliver strategic objectives
  • Budget management experience
  • Experience of managing property maintenance
  • Good level of IT systems support and implementation experience
  • Understanding of the requirements of the Data Protection Act, and experience of managing GDPR.
  • Experience of working with Trustees and volunteers
  • Experience of working in retail, charity or the public sector
  • Project management experience
  • An understand of building and development projects
  • Knowledge of health and safety legislation
  • A full valid UK Driving Licence
