HEALTH & SAFETY MANAGER (covering Felixstowe and Tilbury)

Experience in warehousing, transport or logistics essential

Develop, promote, and maintain a robust positive and proactive H&S culture throughout sites in Suffolk and Essex. This is achieved through continued staff engagement, presence on site, offering help, advice, support, and training.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Lead and develop H&S representatives on sites.
  2. Responsible for the provision of HSE support, help and advice to sites, ensuring consistency with other UK sites.
  3. Undertake a programme of inspections and audits in accordance with the company management systems.
  4. Maintain the company’s health and safety performance measurement and reporting system, analyzing results to help identify improvement opportunities.
  5. Be familiar with current health, safety, and environmental legislation relevant to the Group of Companies and advise senior management accordingly.
  6. Periodic reviews of all activities in line with existing Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work, amending and creating new ones where appropriate.
  7. Where required, assist with the delivery of internal training and support with the implementation of training plans.
  8. Work collaboratively with all relevant stakeholders to promote continuous improvement in health and safety performance.
  9. Ensure that all injuries, diseases, and dangerous occurrences are reported in line with statutory requirements.
  10. Develop and maintain close working relationship with the Health and Safety Managers of the company to allow the sharing of new initiatives.
NEBOSH National General Certificate Qualification in Occupational H&S Person Specification:
  • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills to explain health and safety processes to a wide range of people and to give presentations to groups.
  • Experience in warehousing, transport or logistics essential.
  • Patience and diplomacy because the profession requires a collaborative approach.
  • Be a ‘team player’ who can communicate and engage with all levels of staff.
  • Ability to understand and analyze complex information and present it simply and accurately.
  • IT skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • A flexible approach to work.
  • An interest in H&S legislation and the ability to understand regulations.
