This is an exciting opportunity for a Principal Clinical Psychologist to work within Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust and Lancashire County Council as part of the Family Safeguarding Team.


The Family Safeguarding Team aims to keep the highest risk children and families in Lancashire together safely, improve health and educational outcomes for the children and reduce physical and emotional harm in families. The teams are multi-disciplinary and co-located within Children's Social Care and are made up of social care practitioners and adult specialists to work with parents in relation to domestic abuse, mental health and substance misuse.


Our teams have a focus on a motivational interviewing approach to support families and empower and engage parents to make the positive changes needed to achieve improved outcomes for their children and their own wellbeing.
The Principal Clinical Psychologist will work as part of the Multi-Disciplinary Teams and Services provided by adult specialists to parents/carers.


To work with the Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Clinical Psychologist to plan and deliver training, MDT support and consultation, as required.
To provide clinical supervision to an Assistant Psychologist, Trainee clinical Psychologist and Mental Health Practitioners within the team.

Doctoral level training in clinical psychology or equivalent for those who trained prior to 1996, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the BPS.


Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex, multivariate data analysis as practiced within the clinical fields of psychology.
Knowledge of legislation, and its implications in relation to the client group and mental health.
Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS by completion of CPD log demonstrating a minimum of 40 hours per year.
Formal training in supervision of other psychologists

Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for client's psychological care and treatment both as a professionally qualified care co-ordinator and also within the context of multidisciplinary care plan.
Experience of teaching, training and supervising.

Well developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups
