Job Advert We are looking for a Support Worker to join our Service based in Bitterne, Southampton on a part time (22.5 hours a week) basis. Shifts will be spread across mornings, afternoons, evenings and sleep ins, weekends and bank holidays. Due to a nature of this service, we are ideally looking for applicants who hold a full, clean driving licence but this is not essential. About the Service This role is in one Service, in which we support four gentlemen. The service is on a great bus route, that stops are within 3 minutes of the front door. We are seeking applications from candidates who are comfortable with lone working, willing to trying new things, and be out in the community with the people we support as well as in their home. Working with these four gentlemen is incredibly rewarding and you can see and feel the difference you make in their lives, and they have on yours. They enjoy a range of activities, including cooking, going to the cinema, going to the theatre, watching movies and TV, arts and crafts/colouring, gardening, taking long walks, feeding the birds/ducks, talking about history/ politics/ sports, visiting other cities or places outside of Southampton and visiting museums, galleries and other historical locations. What does a Support Worker do? As a Support Worker you will be expected to provide an outstanding level of support that will help to ensure the people we support live a more comfortable, dignified, liberated and happy life. You will have excellent communication skills and be a naturally caring and patient personality. Typical responsibilities may include: Supporting people to live independently – budget management, paying bills, housework, organising appointments and cooking delicious healthy meals. Excellent communication skills and Relationship building – supporting the people we support to understand the world around them and promoting positive relationships. Community & Social Inclusion - supporting individuals to access and participate in their local community and social events to promote life skills and individuality. Personal care - helping people to get ready for the day.This may include prompting the people we support to take their medication and assisting with bathing, showering and using the all Support Worker roles include high levels of personal care.Have you thought about working for Mencap?
