Trainee Support Worker

**About You**:
This role will provide you with the opportunity to earn while you learn and enable you to develop skills in supporting children and adults with learning disabilities. It is ideal for someone considering a future career in this field and is looking to gain greater experience in working with this client group. As well as ongoing day to day support we will also offer you a training programme which is tailored to your specific needs through discussion with your line manager.
To be considered you should have the right attitude and aptitude and be eager to learn new skills. In return we will train and provide you with the right support to get the most out of the experience.

**Qualifications**:
- Must be able to pass a background check and drug test
- An awareness of the support needs of children or adults with a learning disability is preferred but not an essential requirement.
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check
- This is a full-time position, with the ability to work some of the school holidays, and alternate Saturdays during term time.
- We are looking for someone who can start immediately.
The main aim of the role is to provide support to our clients who are children, young people or adults with learning disabilities, either in a group or on a 1-1 basis, across the broad age range and abilities to reach their full potential.
- Help clients to settle into the service.
- Provide guidance, help and practical support which enables clients to participate in activities and increases their confidence and independence.
- Help with on-site activities as well as projects within the community
- Support clients in accessing internal work experience and taster sessions.
- Assist with personal care or health needs as directed by the supervisor.
- Work as directed by the supervisor in delivering activities which help participants develop self-esteem and confidence and ultimately achieve their optimum potential.
- Support pastoral and cultural needs and implement any individual arrangements as directed.
**IN ADDITION YOU WILL**
- Participate in regular training events and one to one supervision meetings
- Have a commitment to the ethos of the day service and short breaks programmes and support the supervisors in the creation of a friendly, supportive and stimulating environment.
- Adhere to guidance on infection prevention control as well as health and safety aspects at the start and end of each session as well as throughout.
- Support and promote a positive safeguarding culture, reporting any concerns immediately to the supervisor.
- Undertake any other duties as delegated by the supervisor.
**SKILLS REQUIRED**
- Ability to interact effectively with a broad spectrum of disability and a genuine empathy and affinity for this particular client group
- Good communication
- Awareness of the importance of safeguarding, equality & diversity and health & safety and the impact this has on those with learning disabilities.
- Flexibility to attend staff meetings, planned induction and training sessions, and to be available for supervision as requested.
- Demonstrate compassion, resilience and a commitment to being a positive role model
- Some experience of supporting children or adults with additional needs either in a paid or unpaid capacity will be an advantage.
