JOB PURPOSE

Reporting to the Data Governance & Transformation Lead, the Market Data Domain Steward will be responsible for leading the data domain level discussions and decisions, maintaining domain data governance procedures, data sub domains and glossary definitions, data quality metrics and rules, and managing data sharing and access for Market data domain. The Market Domain Data Steward will be part of the global Data Governance Team in the CAO office of Capital Markets, and will work closely with Data Owners, Data Stewards, Data Custodians and all other data stakeholders in all Line of Businesses in Capital Markets.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Data Governance
  • Work with the Data Owners, Data Stewards, Data Governance Leads, other Data Domain Leads and other stakeholders in order to implement data governance processes and practices to ensure alignment with the Enterprise Data Governance Policy.
  • Champion Capital Markets Data Governance Framework to enhance data governance practices in all line of businesses and extend the framework where needed.
  • Support Data Governance Leads and Data Owners in order to enforce Data Governance Policy set out by CIBC’s Enterprise Data & Records Management Office (EDRMO).
  • Support Data Stewards in identifying Critical Data Elements, and review and agree on them with other data roles from business and technology.
  • Develop and maintain sub-domains and Business Glossary content for Market Data Domain . Ongoingly improve all processes to create and maintain content.
  • Lead Market Data Domain Working Group to continuously review, maintain and enhance data governance procedures, processes and practices.
  • Lead one of the 3 Data Governance disciplines (Metadata Management, Data Quality, Data Access Management) providing expert guidance to the rest of the Data Role Holders in Capital Markets.
  • Monitor and coordinate data quality rules, data quality dashboard and data issues for Market Data by taking inputs from business data stewards and following up on progress of resolution.
  • Document Data Custody Agreements between source and destination data sources by taking inputs from data stewards and data custodians, and seeking approval from data owners.
  • Manage data access requests for Market Data in strategic analytical data sources in centralized data access logs and monitor data access expiry.
  • Effectively manage relationships with data role holders, users and stakeholders across various levels of seniority.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
  • Capital Markets Market Data Domain Knowledge:
    • Significant experience in Capital Markets, ideally in change initiatives.
    • Excellent business and product knowledge, particularly around market data including pricing, rates, time series and their usage in trade lifecycle, risk management and PnL calculations.
    • Familiarity with market data providers and provision of market data by data vendors.
    • Knowledge of applicable jurisdictional and company-specific regulations/ Especially BCBS239 framework (RDAR), Fundamental Review of the Trading Book (FRTB) and jurisdictional regulations (Dodd Frank, EMIR, MiFID, CAT NMS, IIROC, etc) is considered a key asset.
  • Data Governance and Management :
    • Experience with data management and data governance principles and practices, including but not limited to: Business Glossary, Metadata Management, Data Quality Assessment, Data Issue Management and Data Access Management.
    • Experience with master data management, especially in Capital Markets Market Data is considered a key asset.
    • Strong understanding of data management practices, applicable techniques, and technology. Good understanding of data structures and data lifecycle.
    • Familiarity with data storage, data processing and data management technologies.
    • Experience with data centric change initiatives (data migration, data transformation, data analysis and insights) is an asset.
  • Change Management : 
    • Experience with operating model, process and system changes in a large corporate and/or financial services environment.
    • Ability to understand, monitor, update, or enhance existing business or work process. 
    • Strong continuous improvement mindset, identifying opportunities for operational enhancements and process efficiencies.
    • Technical skills and comfort level working with existing and new technology and software applications.
    • Experience with AGILE methodology is an asset.
  • Professional Skills:
    • Team player skills and ability adopt well to dynamic and goal-focused teams.
    • Ability to become quickly proficient in new processes and systems.
    • Strong attention to detail and excellent documentation skills.
    • Strong work ethic and delivery focus.
