The Department
The Department of Accounting at Durham University seeks to appoint a talented individual to the role of Assistant Professor (Research & Education). We welcome applications from those with research and education interests in the broad field of accounting, particularly those who can demonstrate an interest in our strategic themes of digitalisation, sustainability, and public accountability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To pursue high-quality research in terms of originality, significance, and rigour.
  • To develop plans for national and international funding opportunities to support research.
  • To engage in teaching and research supervision, contributing to ongoing curriculum development.
  • To enhance the quality of the research environment through collaborative research activity.
  • To deliver lectures, seminars, and tutorials at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • To contribute to attracting and supervising research students.
  • To engage in administrative work and uphold the values of the Department.

Person Specification
Candidates will have completed their PhD (or be close to completion) and should outline their experience, skills, and achievements to meet the essential criteria.

Essential Research Criteria:

  • A good first degree and a PhD (or close to completion) in accounting or a related subject.
  • Evidence of high-quality research outputs.
  • A personal research plan that aligns with the Department's strategic themes.

Essential Education Criteria:

  • Evidence of effective and engaging teaching.
  • Experience in new programme development and innovation in teaching.
  • Evidence of strategic teaching development.
