As a key leader the head of Occupational Therapy will provide leadership, facilitation and direction to Occupational Therapy staff across the 3 IOTS (Integrated Occupational Therapy Partnership) partner organisations and through professional leadership they are responsible for providing high quality patient focused therapy services.


This role will work with Service Management teams and the Professions Lead to support the development of the longer-term strategic direction for all Allied Healthcare Professionals across the Trust collaboratives and IOTS partnership.


The Head of Occupational Therapy has responsibility for the development and clinical supervision for all the Occupational Therapists. The role will support delivery of the Integrated Occupational Therapy service partnership strategic plan, objectives, target and measures ensuring performance objectives relating to Occupational Therapy staff and services are achieved.


They will ensure that legal and professional responsibilities are met by the profession through compliance with the regulatory requirements of the HCPC and the relevant professional body.


This role will required to work across services based at the James Cook University Hospital, Friarage Hospital, Tees Community and Hambleton & Richmondshire Community.
As the senior managerial leader in the clinical service, the Head of Occupational Therapy will work with the professions lead and service managers in setting the IOTS partner organisations strategy and leading business development activities.


The Head of Occupational Therapy will support services on a day-to-day basis by ensuring operational resilience and efficiency. The Head of Occupational Therapy will maintain a close working relationship with and update regularly to the Professions Lead for key performance and operational matters.


As a strong communicator and change agent the Head of Occupational Therapy will have visibility and demonstrate strong personal leadership and direction whilst at the same time building effective leadership and management teams at all levels within the Trust collaboratives and IOTS partner organisations. The post holder is expected to work with autonomy and establish ways of working within the Trust, Local Authority, and general health Policies. South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust offers leadership and improvement training to all new staff to the Trust this training programme has been designed to support our leaders in developing their understanding of leadership and management skills. You will be expected to attend the leadership development programme, and the Quality Improvement Programme that the Trust delivers. Practitioner level in quality improvement, equipping you with the skills to champion, lead and complete quality improvement within your role

After you complete this four and a half days of training you will be able to explore further leadership and improvement training opportunities, we offer further in-house courses dependent upon your role and bitesize programmes and leadership apprenticeships at level 3,5 and 7
Knowledge and experience is required over a large number of specialties to include Human Resources, Finance, Performance Management, Planning and Communications in additional to operational management knowledge.
Knowledge of the operational management requirements at a AHP senior level.
Knowledge of business planning and service improvement at an operational level
Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) regulated health professional (Occupational Therapy)
Evidence of recent relevant professional development

Relevant senior management experience in a key health or social care professional role / operational role.
