We have been assigned by one of the UK's more prestigious NHS Trusts to help them recruit a Consultant in Cardiology on either a Substantive or an NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months to join their successful Cardiology department.

Our client currently provides acute treatment and care for a catchment population of around 500,000 people within the area. We provide 759 beds and a comprehensive range of acute services including medicine and surgery, services for women and children, accident and emergency services, and diagnostic and clinical support services. The CQC recently rated the care we provide as outstanding. Our client provides cardiology services to a local population of approximately 550,000. The new purpose built Cardiac Centre opened in 2000 with two dedicated cardiac catheterisation laboratories for interventional work. The Department is situated on 2 floors in the central block of the RUH. The Cardiac Centre has full outpatient facilities with waiting area, 3 consulting suites, 2 exercise testing rooms, 3 echocardiography rooms, 12-lead ECG Department and ambulatory ECG room. There is a seminar Room and office space for medical, nursing, technical, managerial and secretarial staff. Adjacent to this are two dedicated cardiac catheterisation suites with a recovery area for 4 patients, radial lounge with 3 chairs, and changing rooms. The floor below contains an 8-bedded Coronary Care Unit and a 36 bedded cardiac ward, plus a day case area with trolleys for investigations.

The successful appointee will be joining a department of 11 Cardiology Consultants,1 Associate Specialist in Cardiology, 2 Specialist Registrars, 1 Trust Grade, 1 F1, 1 F2, 1 CMT and 1 GPST on medical rotation (Severn Deanery). There are regular nurse/physiologist led Chest Pain Clinics. There are five Heart Failure Nurse working within the department and a busy Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit with 5 part-time nurses. The department expect the appointee to fulfil the following expectations: the ability to engage in TOE/echocardiography as sub-specialty interest, contribute to the provision of all cardiac services to the local population, participate in audit and directorate meetings and undertake administrative duties as required by the Lead Clinician of Cardiology, undertake regular out-patient clinics and sub-specialty sessions combined with ward work, taking part in the management of acute cardiac admissions [ward commitments will be on two weeks(2) out of nine(9) weeks] & interest in research and teaching is expected with participation in projects, courses,etc. to enhance the standing and role of the Department and Trust attendance at, and organisation of, meetings is expected.
