Leadership of a team of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Technicians working in Trauma & Orthopaedics.

Main duties of the job

Trauma & Orthopaedic Therapy Team covers: Major Trauma, Trauma, Elective Orthopaedics, Day Surgery, Plastics and Short Stay Surgery (Vernon)

Specialist therapy role providing daily support and supervision to Physiotherapists working within in the team and across the wider Trust

Specialist assessment and treatment of complex clinical caseload and support for other team members with their treatment plans and clinical reasoning to facilitate safe and timely discharge. Expert in respiratory physio, complex MSK trauma and neuro trauma.

Organises and provides clinical supervision, teaching, completion of audit and service improvement projects.

Split role post leading Research portfolio for T& O.

Qualifications and Training

Essential


  • Degree or equivalent in physiotherapy
  • HCPC registration
  • Evidence of CPD, in the form of a detailed personal development portfolio, including attendance at recent post graduate courses relevant to the clinical field

Desirable


  • Special interest group membership
  • Working towards MSc

Experience

Essential


  • Minimum 18 months to 2 years post registration experience
  • NHS experience
  • Broad range of experience at junior level including ICU, medical/surgery, senior health, musculoskeletal orthopaedics / outpatients and neurosciences
  • Participation in on-call and weekend rotas
  • Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team (MDT)
  • Ability to form a sound prognosis and advice other members of the MDT

Desirable


  • Previous experience at Band 6 level
  • Student supervision / clinical education
  • Experience of the research process
  • Teaching experience in in-service programs
  • Committee membership e.g. health and safety

  • Remains updated with professional practice and new research

  • Good assessment skills based on a sound clinical reasoning approach including the assessment of symptom behaviour, history taking and gathering of physical/objective testing and hypothesis formation
