About the Role…

The Fuel Pricing Manager oversees the pricing strategies and optimization of fuel products within the business, responsible for monitoring market trends, analysing competitor pricing, and developing pricing strategies to maximize profitability while maintaining competitiveness in the market.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement pricing strategies for fuel products based on market dynamics, cost considerations, and business objectives.
  • Evaluate pricing models and methodologies to ensure alignment with company goals and profitability targets.
  • Monitor market trends, including fuel prices, demand-supply dynamics, and competitor pricing strategies.
  • Conduct regular analysis of market data to identify pricing opportunities and risks.
  • Analyse competitor pricing strategies and market positioning to assess competitiveness and inform pricing decisions.
  • Identify strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for differentiation in the market.
  • Utilize pricing optimization techniques and tools to adjust prices dynamically based on market conditions, demand patterns, and customer behaviour.
  • Continuously refine pricing strategies to maximize revenue and profitability.
  • Set and adjust fuel prices in coordination with internal stakeholders, including operations and finance teams.
  • Ensure accurate and timely implementation of pricing changes across all channels and locations.
  • Monitor and analyse the impact of pricing changes on sales volume, revenue, and profitability.
  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to evaluate pricing effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, marketing, finance, and supply chain, to align pricing strategies with overall business objectives and operational realities.
  • Communicate pricing decisions and rationale effectively across the organization.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards related to fuel pricing, including pricing transparency and anti-competitive practices.
  • Analyse market elasticities and customer behaviour
  • Design, develop, and maintain a variety of analytic, optimisation and pricing models.
  • Perform quarterly reviews with area/regional managers to improve the sites performance by using site-specific analysis.
  • Use analytic techniques to test ideas or check the effect of individual factors, either at a single site or for the company overall
  • Participate in senior management meetings to give insight and/or statistical backup.
  • Support other teams within the company on fuel related issues, e.g. Mergers and Acquisitions team, Finance teams.
  • Work on a wide variety of ad-hoc projects, including (but not limited to) external business propositions, pricing system building, company expansion plans etc.
  • Manage transportation contracts.
  • Invoice verification and approval.
  • Define yearly distribution budget.
  • Ensure operational KPI’s are being monitored and improved.
  • Ensure timely and trustworthy fuel supply chain KPI reporting.
  • Ensure equipment on site which is needed for safe and reliable deliveries is compliant.
  • Ordering fuel for the UK BP sites, as well as a selection of UK Esso sites whilst maximising savings on deliveries depending on the current cost price of fuel.
  • Taking advantage of low and high fills when the cost price changes
  • Ensuring the site has an optimal level of fuel stock, with enough ullage to accept.
  • deliveries, but not so much as to miss a falling cost market.
  • Managing the efficient bunkering balance for each site
  • Swapping grades/adding new tanks on sites where fuel deliveries produce regular issues.
  • Ensure optimal supply chain option is applied across the network and product availability is guaranteed.
  • Stay informed about relevant laws, regulations, and industry guidelines.
  • Drive continuous improvement in pricing processes, methodologies, and systems. Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, enhance data analytics capabilities, and optimize pricing decision-making.

Candidate Requirements

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in pricing, revenue management, or related roles, preferably in the fuel or energy industry.
  • Strong understanding of pricing concepts, methodologies, and tools, with proven experience in developing and implementing pricing strategies.
  • Experience with data analysis and modelling techniques, including proficiency in Excel or other analytical tools.
  • Familiarity with fuel market dynamics, including factors influencing fuel prices, demand patterns, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to achieve common objectives.
  • Degree qualified: Mathematics or, Economics or, Data Analysis or, Statistical modelling
