We are looking for a Physiotherapist (PT) to join our Acute Medicine Therapy team based at the Northern General Hospital.

This team of delivers acute and on-going patient care within a range of specialities including Palliative Care, Geriatric medicine, Frailty, Dementia and Parkinson's disease. The team of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and support staff work closely covering multiple medical wards providing early rehabilitation, assessment, intervention, and discharge planning for a complex and diverse case-mix of patients. The post holder will focus some of this work toward the palliative care unit, providing support for discharge panning but also rehabilitation and symptom management with the aim of enhancing function and independence within a personalised What matters to You approach

The post holder will work closely with the Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist to develop clinical practice and standards of care for this patient group, considering pathways and links to community services.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Sound knowledge, skills, and experience to work toward acquiring core Physiotherapy competencies in medical conditions, ensuring a good knowledge of physiotherapy practice.
  • A commitment to quality improvement, evidence-based healthcare, and compassionate and inclusive leadership

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and team working skills.
  • The ability to prioritise their time and resources effectively.
  • Some experience or willingness to develop in the education, training and development of pre-registration and post-registration learners

The post holder will have opportunities to:

  • Grow their personal and professional development with both breadth and depth across a framework of clinical practice, education, leadership, and quality improvement & research.
  • Utilise sound clinical reasoning skills to provide acute inpatient care including early rehabilitation and assessments to identify needs and support discharge.
  • Provide expert advice, education and support for patients and staff.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of education within the team and division.
  • Supervision and mentorship of therapy staff and students.
  • Service development.
  • Work within a highly experienced MDT.

Therapy Services provides several services over 7 days (including Saturday, Sunday, and bank holidays). The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to a 7-day therapy roster.

Essential


  • BSc in Physiotherapy or equivalent
  • Current HCPC registration

Experience

Essential


  • Post-registration NHS experience as a Physiotherapist.
  • Post-registration knowledge and skill to manage a complex specialist caseload in the relevant clinical speciality applied for.

Desirable


  • Clinical Governance or Health & Safety, link worker
  • Member of special Interest Group
  • Fieldwork educators Course
  • Clinical Effectiveness course/Project

Further Training

  • Evidence of continuous personal & professional development
