You will lead the Engineering Team in developing our future Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) products based on second life Electric Vehicle (EV) battery packs.

The Chief Engineer will lead the Engineering Team in developing our future Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) products based on second life Electric Vehicle (EV) battery packs. As we grow our partnerships with various vehicle manufacturers, there will be various product development streams to manage simultaneously with internal stakeholders and external strategic partners.

Role Overview

The Chief Engineer will lead the Engineering Team in developing our future Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) products based on second life Electric Vehicle (EV) battery packs.

As we grow our partnerships with various vehicle manufacturers, there will be various product development streams to manage simultaneously with internal stakeholders and external strategic partners.

The role will have the ownership of the various product phases: definition and concept, detailed design, testing & validation, and certification; ensuring the successful delivery of the technical projects in line with the agreed timeline, budget and KPIs.

Main Activities / Responsibilities
  • Project ownership of grid-scale energy storage systems, using second life EV packs, managing it from specification through design, prototype, validation, and manufacturing.
  • Collaborate with a team of Innovation, HW & SW engineers to transition designs from prototypes to production units.
  • Regularly comparing project target costs to actual, conducting scheduled financial meetings, and attending the steering committee of the project.
  • Managing the project’s finances to ensure it stays on budget.
  • Ensuring that BoM targets are achieved and rigorously enforced to reduce costs for future iterations and improvements.
  • Collaborating with suppliers/project partners to ensure on-time, quality delivery.
  • Make critical choices in major component selection.
  • Designing a system for ease of installation and understanding how this impacts the overall engineering system.
  • Develop comprehensive functional and non-functional requirements at the system level.
  • Oversee the review and approval of system, subsystems, and component requirements.
  • Defining, maintaining, and enforcing good engineering practices within the Engineering Team.
  • Demonstrating expertise in quality and reliability within electronic engineering principles.
  • Creating and maintaining all pertinent technical and project management documentation, including requirements, specifications, DFMEA, test plans, and project plans.
  • Possessing a strong grasp of mechatronics engineering, with experience in electrical engineering.
Person Specification
  • MSc level in Electrical Engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience in the complete product lifecycle, from inception, to product launch.
  • Experience in power electronics, BESS and/or EV mobility.
  • Experience in Electrical Design Engineering, both High Voltage & Low Voltage.
  • Exposure to Software Engineering and Control Strategy.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading a multidisciplinary team of engineers to deliver complex hardware & software projects.
  • Strong self-motivation and ability to effectively collaborate within a team.
  • Strong organisation & leadership skills.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Prior involvement in the fields of energy storage.
  • Knowledge of BESS compliance requirements (CE marking, UL9540A etc…).
