Job Introduction

A fantastic opportunity has arisen within HMP Lowdham Grange to join our prisons Psychology team as a Forensic Psychologist .

The Psychology Department at HMP Lowdham Grange is in the process of exciting and progressive redevelopment. As a Forensic Psychologist you will join us in leading and developing a range of innovative plans including the development of a psychologically led unit and the strengthening of multi-disciplinary working to support our prisoners, presenting significant opportunity for personal growth and continuing professional development. We also recognise the valuable impact of your skills in training and consultancy in developing and supporting our staff through this period of change.

As a Forensic Psychologist you will work closely with the Head of Psychology to develop and promote the psychological services within the Prison and work collaboratively with the Psychology Team and external stakeholders.

You will help to support a team of Forensic Psychologists in Training and will support team members with their caseloads, whilst also maintaining direct contact with prisoners with complex needs including those whose early experiences have contributed to difficulties within their personality functioning and contributed to involvement in serious offending.

We envisage that candidates will have relevant previous experience within prison establishments, although we will consider those whose experience lies within the Forensic Mental Health field. We are able to consider candidates who are newly qualified, who can demonstrate the required insight into the potential demands of the role and solid evidence of the ongoing development of relevant skills.

Every aspect of the prison is designed to help prisoners make meaningful progress in their sentence and personal development goals within a surrounding culture of rehabilitation. Does this sound like something you’d like to be part of?

  • Supporting and supervising staff with their caseload and direct contact with Prisoners with complex needs
  • Completion of Parole Reports and conducting assessments such as HCR20, PCL-R, IPDE, and SARA.
  • Responsible for forensic assessments, formulations and inputting into psychological treatment interventions with prisoners.
  • Working in a multi-disciplinary and collaborative way with the Psychology and Interventions team, prisoners and the wider Prison.
  • The role may also require you to contribute to multi-disciplinary meetings within and outside of the Prison and liaise with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Leading, developing and contributing to new Offending Behaviour Programmes (OBP) and ensuring psychological oversight and input where required.
  • Delivering training on issues such as managing behaviours, personality disorder and sharing information on complex case formulations with relevant teams to assist prisoner management.

The Ideal Candidate

  • You will need to be an HCPC Registered Forensic Psychologist
  • 1 year of experience of working in secure settings
  • Knowledge of psychological theory in working with individuals with personality disorder, involvement in violent behaviour, and have knowledge of the potential needs of neurodiverse people.

  • Experience of achieving Key Performance Targets
