A fantastic part-time opportunity for an experienced Waking Night Carer to support an easy going and bright boy of 8 who has a diagnosis of Dravet Syndrome. £23,088.00 gross per annum. Nearest Tube/Station: Shepherds Bush Market and Shepherds Bush. Wage/Salary: £18.50 gross per hour. £23,088.00 gross per annum. Driver Essential? No Essential: Experience working waking nights. Experience in epilepsy and seizure management. Trained to administer Buccal Midazolam. Up to date paediatric first aid including CPR. Non-smoker/vaper. Desirable: Experience supporting someone with severe epilepsy. Start Date: July Days & Hours: Thursday and Friday: 7.30pm – 7.30am. Family/Client Pets: One friendly whippet. Accommodation: Living room and kitchen available to use on waking night shifts. Recruiter: Natasha (url removed) About this client/child: Danny (8) is a cheerful and good-natured boy, with a fantastic sense of humour. He lives with his Mum and Dad, and older brother and sister in a lovely home in west London. Danny loves chatting, laughing and playing with his many board games and puzzles. He enjoys watching TV and playing football, and he attends a SEN football club once a week. Danny really enjoys food and is always curious about his next meal. Danny is a very laid back and easy-going boy. Danny has Epilepsy and Autism due to Dravet Syndrome, He currently has approximately one seizure per week. This can be at any time, while sleeping or awake, while out or in the house. He requires first-line medication (buccal midazolam) to be given immediately once a seizure begins. If the seizure doesn’t terminate, Danny will need his second line medication (Paraldehyde – training provided). Danny is most at risk if he gets a cough or cold, even a small increase in his internal body temperature can cause a seizure. Danny needs someone to monitor him at all times. Danny also has gait and mobility issues. He needs monitoring on the stairs, in the bath and when playing in case he trips and injures himself or has a seizure. Overview of role: Danny needs a new waking night carer to come and support him through each Thursday and Friday night. His carer will arrive at 7.30pm and Danny will have started his bedtime routine with his daytime carer. Danny loves to play a board game or puzzle before bed each night, and his new waking night carer will play with him. Danny is a good sleeper, and he will settle down well after this, drifting off to sleep on his own. The waking night carer will watch Danny constantly through the night via a baby monitor system, and they will also check on Danny at regular intervals through the night. If Danny is unwell, the carer will need to sit in his room to keep a closer eye on him. If Danny has a seizure during the night, then his seizure protocol needs to be implemented. There is a living room and kitchen for the carer to use whilst on duty. There is no need to undertake lots of domestic tasks during the night shift, the main focus is on Danny, though it would be helpful if the carer could unload the dishwasher. The carer is free to read, study or watch TV during the night shift. The family go away 1-2 times a year, for short breaks, and may request the new waking night carer to go with them. Danny usually wakes up between 6am – 7am, and the night carer provides a simple breakfast, gives Danny his regular morning medications, and helps him get dressed for school. This is a part time role, working Thursday and Friday nights, from 7.30pm – 7.30am, £18.50 gross per hour. Who this job would suit: This job would suit an experienced and confident waking night carer, with excellent seizure management experience, who is up to date with their first aid training. Someone with a great sense of humour, who is looking for a long-term, part-time role, to fit around their other commitments. What’s great about this job: This is an amazing opportunity to work with a fantastic boy, in his family home. Danny and his family are known to Snap Care, and they will be a pleasure to work for. Training provided in administration of Paraldehyde. Who is recruiting for this role? Snap Care will be carrying out all recruitment including shortlisting, recruiter interviews and arranging employer interviews
