London, United Kingdom Legal Utopia Full time €150

Company Description

We simply believe in making law more accessible, affordable, and instant for those that cannot afford it, understand it, or access it when they need it. We think using technology can be a new way to open up the law to millions of people across the UK that experience common legal problems. We know this can make law instant, positive, and fairer for everyone. Our solution focuses on giving anyone the ability to identify their legal problem, understand it, and access the options available.

Role Description

This is a role to join our new AI Governance Board as a Member at Legal Utopia. As an AI Governance Board Member, you will be responsible for reviewing our work, activities, and proposed uses of artificial intelligence. You will provide oversight and make recommendations to ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement AI policies and procedures, and to assess the impact of AI on data subjects, the legal industry, stakeholders, and our business.

Scope

The Board's governance encompasses all AI-related initiatives within Legal Utopia, including research, development, procurement, deployment, and use of AI technologies, subject to the Terms of Reference. This covers AI systems developed in-house, procured from external vendors, or developed in collaboration with partners. The Board is not formed as a committee under the Companies Act 2006 or Legal Utopia's corporate governance. The AI Governance Board members will not be required to act as company directors or non-executive directors but independent consultants to Legal Utopia.

Term

Members are appointed by the Director of Operations and serve a term of one year, renewable based on the discretion of the appointing authority (Board of Directors).

Commitment

The AI Governance Board will meet at least once every quarter, or more frequently as deemed necessary by the Chair. Special meetings may be convened to address urgent issues. Each meeting is expected to last 1 to 2 hours.

Remuneration

Each member of the AI Governance Board will be paid £150.00 per hour, per quarterly meeting. The same rate is applied to any special or supplement meetings.

Responsibilities Description

  • Oversight of AI Ethics and Compliance: Ensure AI initiatives comply with ethical guidelines, legal standards, and regulatory requirements.

  • Risk Management: Oversee the identification, assessment, and mitigation of risks associated with AI projects.

  • Policy Development: Develop and update policies governing the ethical use of AI, data governance, privacy, and security.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Ensure effective communication with and consideration of the views of internal and external stakeholders.

  • Review and Approval: Review and approve major AI projects, with the authority to request modifications, impose conditions, or reject projects based on non-compliance with governance criteria.

  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Monitor the implementation of AI projects and their adherence to approved guidelines, evaluating their impact on stakeholders and the organisation.

Reporting

The Board will produce reports addressed directly to the Board of Directors, providing regular updates on AI governance activities, identified risks, and recommendations for addressing ethics and compliance issues.
