DescriptionOxford Economics is looking for an experienced urban economist to join our cities team to help shape our research into city and regional economies. The team consists of more than 40 economists who help clients understand the structure and outlook of thousands of locations across all parts of the world, as well as quantifying key risks under different economic scenarios and climate pathways. The team supports its client base through a range of subscription services and consultancy projects. The client base is global, and includes firms in the real estate sector, financial services, B2C companies, think tanks, and the government/public sector organisations. The successful candidate will oversee the production of thematic research and lead research projects for the team, drawing on economists with a range of skills and qualifications. They will also contribute to the existing outputs of the cities team in various ways such as enhancing existing methodologies, drafting high-quality reports, and presenting results to clients and the media. In the role, they will collaborate with other teams at Oxford Economics, utilising different expertise to provide powerful solutions. The role involves working with diverse clients worldwide and therefore strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
The role will suit candidates with a strong academic background in in economics, geography, or a related discipline, and those with at least 10 years’ experience undertaking relevant work.
While our team is primarily based in London, we welcome applicants from other cities where we have global offices, such as New York City, and other locations.
- Guide and coordinate the agenda for our topical and thematic research on city and regional economies;
- Produce research reports, as well as reaction insights to major news developments;
- Ensure that Oxford Economics’ city forecast methods and research are market-leading;
- Support efforts to build our external brand in the field of city analytics;
- Present analysis and findings to a range of clients and media;
- Plan and structure projects and coordinate the contributions of junior team members;
- Support the continued development of the team, sharing knowledge and expertise, and mentoring junior colleagues, and bringing new ideas and techniques to the team;
The successful candidate will be expected to have at least 10 years of prior experience working in the field of urban economics, or a closely related discipline. The successful candidate will be rigorous, adaptable and creative in seeking solutions to difficult economic questions and should also have the following attributes:
- Strong academic education in economics, geography, or a related discipline;
- Skills and experience undertaking and co-ordinating urban economic analysis, such as market assessments, economic impact studies, economic forecasting, or demographic analysis;
- In-depth knowledge of economic concepts, issues, and analytical techniques relevant to sub-national analysis;
- High level of proficiency in project and client management;
- Strong written and verbal communication, including experience presenting analysis and findings to a range of clients and media;
- Experience in training and developing junior staff;
- Ability to problem solve and produce innovative analysis to a range of different projects and challenges, including spatial, conceptual, strategic, and economic issues.
- Strong written and verbal communication, including the ability to explain technical concepts and quantitative results to non-specialists.
- Entrepreneurial and proactive in identifying emerging business opportunities, and developing solutions on how the need can be met by the team;
