This is a fabulous opportunity to join a busy HR Division as a Role Analyst, working at a leading Cambridge institution.

As part of the Grading Team (within the HR Division), the Role Analyst will be responsible for fair, and objective job evaluation and grading of roles, to allocate them to the grading structure. In addition, the Role Analyst plays an important part in supporting Departments and staff with processes and procedures and providing expert advice on areas of pay.

To be successful in the position, you will have a detailed understanding of job evaluation processes, ideally through experience of working within Higher Education, but this could be with other job evaluation schemes. Additionally, you will be an excellent communicator with a natural ability to build relationships, you will have the ability to work on your own initiative and prioritise your work to meet tight deadlines, whilst maintaining and confidentiality.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Be the expert in the use of the job evaluation scheme HERA (Higher Education Role analysis)
  • Carry out the analysis of roles and conduct job evaluations
  • Grade new and existing roles, as well as roles affected as part of departmental restructures
  • Provide grading and scoring expertise to managers, unions, and other stakeholders
  • Provide advice and guidance to HR teams, managers, and others in the university on the job evaluation processes and procedures and on writing role profiles
  • As part of the Grading Team, maintain the integrity of the job evaluation scheme. Ensure that roles are evaluated objectively, consistently, and fairly
  • Resolve issues related to discrepancies in the grading of roles, advise departments on job design and organisation restructures as necessary
  • With the Grading Manager, deal with appeals as a consequence of the grading process as necessary and provide support to grading panels in the interpretation of grading outcomes
  • Design and deliver training on the job evaluation and writing role profiles

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • Educated to degree level/ level 6 vocational qualifications or equivalent level of practical experience
  • Experience of working administratively in an HR/Reward role
  • Experience of job evaluation/grading in a large and complex organisation
  • Knowledge of job evaluation and job evaluation schemes
  • Experienced user of MS Office including Excel
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels
  • High degree of initiative and a proactive approach
  • Commitment to continuous improvement
