Head of Application Development - Leading Insurance company

Permanent Role, London, Hybrid (2-3x a week in office)

£130,000 Base Salary + Bonus + Benefits

An incredible opportunity has opened up for a Head of Engineering to join a leading specialist insurance firm, where you'll have the chance to lead and inspire a dynamic IT team

As the Head of Application Development , you'll take charge of the software development functions (including Portal, Microsoft Business Apps, Finance Systems, In-house Apps, and 2nd line app support), driving technical excellence and ensuring top-notch value and service from vendors and suppliers.

As the firm continues to refine its offerings to insurance partners, you'll play a key role in modernizing their tech stack by implementing best practices, empowering your team, and transitioning away from legacy technologies in favor of innovative platforms like Power Platform and Power Apps. Plus, with a clear path to Director level and ownership of the technology roadmap, this role offers fantastic growth opportunities for your career

To excel in this role, you'll need a strong background in regulated industries and software development (ideally .NET), a solid understanding of or interest in the Power Platform ecosystem, and extensive experience in vendor and budget management.

What We're Looking For:

  • Proven experience managing diverse teams across multiple functions (Microsoft enterprise-focused, legacy .NET, portal platforms, and finance systems)
  • Exceptional stakeholder management skills, with the ability to navigate both day-to-day interactions and conflicts at all levels
  • Strong budget management experience within a regulated organization
  • Extensive vendor and contract management experience, ensuring high-value and quality service from suppliers
  • A knack for driving improvements in fast-paced IT environments, streamlining application development across multiple teams
  • A background in software development, preferably with C#/.NET, and a strong understanding of Power Apps and the Power Platform ecosystem
  • Excellent communication and senior stakeholder management skills
  • Experience in managerial roles within financial services or other highly regulated industries
  • Bonus: Knowledge of the insurance sector

This is a hybrid role based in Central London, with 2-3 days in the office.
