With an award-winning, multi-disciplinary Programme Team and one of the largest new hospital projects in the UK, the Trusts Programme Team combines clinical and design expertise, construction/project management excellence, and specialist roles. It works in a fast-paced and collaborative environment with responsibility for planning, design, construction and delivery of the new hospital.

We are looking for a BtLW Head of Communications.


Leading a small team and working closely with the BtLW Engagement Lead the role will provide expert communications advice and delivery support to the Programme Director. The role will be responsible for the preparation and delivery of the Communications Strategy and Plans, planning and organising high-profile visits and events, and perform an active delivery role. The role should be considered an on-site role with the opportunity to take advantage from the Trusts flexible working policies. Based in the BtLW Programme Team and reporting directly to the Programme Director, the role will be responsible for planning, shaping and evaluating communications with stakeholders both internally and externally and be responsible for planning and organising high-profile visits and events. The role will also be required to perform an active role in delivering communications activities, campaigns and engagement events in the agreed plans.


You will work collaboratively across the Programme Team and with the Trusts Corporate Communications Team to ensure clear, consistent and effective messaging and communications activities keeping stakeholders informed and engaged about the Programme.


The BtLW Head of Communications will lead the BtLW Programme Communications Team and specifically communications in connection with the delivery of the Hospitals of the Future Project and Pathology Project. Whilst based within the Programme Team, the role will work closely with the Associate Director of Communications, the Corporate Communications Team, and CSU Communication Leads.


This will be a dynamic role where you will be involved in several projects at any one time, providing the opportunity to support large scale change and bring our Programme vision to life.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trusts award-winning Building the Leeds Way Programme Team who have responsibility for leading the planning and delivery of the Trusts new hospitals.


This is a complex and evolving Programme that will see you working on one of the largest transformation and capital investment Programmes in the City. Youll be encouraged to collaborate with colleagues and key stakeholders, be empowered to make decisions and youll have training, mentoring and professional support to enable you to maximise your contribution and impact to delivering the Trusts new hospital plans.

Educated to degree level with a post graduate qualification in a communications, PR or media related subject (or equivalent experience in a communications environment).
Post graduate qualification in marketing/communication or a related discipline (or equivalent experience in a communications environment).

Good all-round knowledge of communications and PR theory and best practice (internal and external), especially when working in large and complex organisations.
Good knowledge of communications and engagement techniques and their use in organisational development and change.
Significant experience of working at a senior level in a communications or a PR role in a complex, large organisation.

Experience of working in a capital Projects environment.

Able to assimilate and translate highly complex, sensitive and Programme/operational information into clear communications materials that adheres to Plain English guidelines and meets the needs of the
Ability to be creative in the delivery of communications and in raising the profile of the BtLW Programme.
